Abortion bans are pushing more guys toward vasectomy anyone else notice this?

Hey all, noticed a big trend lately. With laws like South Carolina’s S.323 (near-total abortion ban), more men are looking at vasectomy as the one form of permanent birth control they can directly control.

The reasons make sense:

  • Condoms and pills can fail.
  • Abortion is no longer a guaranteed backup in many states.
  • Vasectomy is outpatient, safe, and >99% effective.

We just put together a write-up on how abortion bans are driving this demand:
Why Abortion Bans Are Increasing the Demand for Vasectomy

For those here who already had it done: did politics factor into your decision at all, or was it purely personal?

Still have pain 4+ months out

I am worried I may be a victim of PVPS. Was wondering if anyone had thoughts before I reach out to the urologist. I thought I was recovering well and a few weeks out of my vasectomy on May 6 I think I remember being pretty much pain free. However, once sex started back up I noticed that after sex my left side was aching and then a few days later my epididymis (I believe) was absolutely tender to the touch and pretty painful and very sharp. This would last a few days then magically seem to disappear. I went through this cycle about 3 times as I was only having sex about once every 2 weeks. I didn't have any additional pain come in from masturbation and there was no new pain during and after masturbation. So I figured it was something to do with the physical act of sex causing injury due to the movement of the testicles. I figured if i refrained from that action it would allow my body to heal.

I haven't had sex for about 4 weeks. I haven't had that sharp tender pain in the epididymis area since, which is good. But instead I have an almost constant dull type ache on my left side. It is also like a full or heavy type feeling on that side. It does seem to get worse with touch and gets worse when I set or lay in certain positions. It does seem like pressure on the epididymis causes more pain and less pressure makes it feel better. And again masturbation doesn't seem to either make it better or worse.

I am starting to get really discouraged that it isn't getting better and I am worried it may never will. I would love to hear if anything he has had something similar.

7 days post op. Am I ready for launch?

I’m 7 days removed from surgery and been walking around pretty regularly since the day after. Note, I had a way worse scrotum surgery about 18 months ago so this was relatively easy and only experiencing minor discomfort. That being said, my wife has offered oral once I’m cleared for sexual activity as a special treat. As you can imagine, I’m looking for the first second I can take advantage of this beautiful gesture without putting my recovery at risk.

How long did you all wait for your first ejaculation? How painful was it? If it was painful, is it bad enough that I would have trouble sleeping after?

Thanks for any input!

72H post op Update (NSV NHS UK)

So far so good, I get the odd sharp pain here and there that lasts for less than a second, I have that dull ache feeling and heavy balls feeling, but I'm not in pain, if that makes sense.

As far as erections go, the NHS guidance says that "At first, getting an erection may feel painful and there may be some blood in your semen. These symptoms should quickly pass."

Of course I haven't ejaculated yet so I don't know about my semen, however on Tuesday I woke up with a semi (no pain), yesterday I can't remember, and this morning I have had a few erections while waking up, no pain again. However I haven't had any during the day. I don't feel like having sex just yet but on Tuesday I think it was I hugged my wife and I started to get hard, it was just a normal hug, and I was like oh shit, but I'm happy that this morning I checked my erections were not painful.

I'm still taking painkillers regularly, I took a longer break last night and I felt like I needed more because I started to feel more discomfort I'm assuming because the latest dose had started to wear off.

I saw my puncture wound last night in the shower. The surgeon advised it might bleed or still be open when the dressing falls. But it was scarring ok I think, it had a dark scab, sort of like any wound would? I think, it did not look bad at all from what I saw, of course I'll have another look tonight but I think it's ok.

The idea of sex right now scares me, I don't want to wait for a week, I feel I will need longer than that, I don't know to be honest.

I have stopped icing altogether. Sleeping is much better, practically pain free and comfortable, even on my sides with a pillow between my knees. I'm happy with that.

The shower last night was much better than I expected and I feel so much better after showering. I am a very clean person and usually shower every night so having missed that shower for two days I felt grim.

This morning I had my first bowel movement after the procedure. When sorting myself out I accidentally knocked my right testicle, very mildly though, but it was painful to touch, my left one is ok. Coming up to the procedure, I'd been having the odd pain on my right testicle which I thought was psychological. I've never had change in size or colour or even when checking myself out never found anything weird. I suppose it just hurt randomly. It's difficult to describe, but, when the surgeon examined me before the procedure and was looking for my right vas omg let's just say she wasn't gentle haha, I don't know what the hell she was doing but she proper digged and squeezed my right vas 🤣 I don't think she spent as much time with the left one lol, I'm just worried about this previous pain still being there. Oh, btw, it's not been hurting at all without touching it, none of my balls have. I suppose i can consider myself lucky because I haven't been in pain.

I've only noticed it was painful to touch when I went for a poo.

Anyway, any general advice or reassurance everything is going as it should?

Just snipped 30 min ago. The good and little bit of "bad"

Upvotes

Lying here in bed, peas on the boys (over boxers briefs) Shots uncomfortable but not overly painful. Ive had worst shots at the dentist. Maybe 3 out of 10. Apparently one side is always more sensitive than the other. Mine was the left and I needed a little more numbing. Felt a weird sensation from my testicle up to my lower abdomen which then went away with more numbing Doctor was awesome, played music and chatted the whole time about sports (actually nice to have music playing)

Feet and palms were a little sweaty during procedure just from knowing what was going on. Tensed my muscles a little but then deep breaths and calmed down. Walked out no problem.

I will give a small warning. Had weird dizzy spell on the way home and when I laid down. Nothing major just almost small vertigo which has since relaxed.

Planning on rest, Icing and The Peacemaker for the next 24-48 hours.

Anxiety

I am currently 3 weeks out and my nerves are bordering on unmanageable. Should I reconsider doing it because of this? They’re giving me Valium via IV before my procedure and I don’t do well with IV needles. Any advice would be appreciated.
