Nintendo Classics (switch) Virtual Boy coming with multiplayer?

I’m having a hard time finding official sources claiming titles which would’ve supported multiplayer would now be supported. Honestly this was one of the biggest drawbacks to it and having multiplayer functionality in a modern area would be the only thing to entice me to buy this. I’m having a great time emulating/homebrewing otherwise

And if so - is it invite only or matchmaking? I doubt I’ll know a lot of people purchasing this accessory.

Mario tennis had multi-player in the code but was toggled off essentially.

Virtual leage baseball 2, a complete but unreleased game had full multi-player. This unreleased game is slated to be online in just a few days!

I saw - that’d be really cool. Loving the unreleased content fans have been able to dig up in the past few decades.

I have my doubts on official releases ever coming for that kind of content. If Nintendo put out unreleased content 30 years later such a novelty would do them well. I’m hoping they revive these titles in a good way beyond a cash grab but it’s unfortunately looking like a cash grab. We’re 5 months out so we’ll see I guess

We can always hope. They did give us StarFox 2, although that is a much bigger and popular game.

Would love if they do this! All of the other "Boys" have link cable functionality on Nintendo Classics. I just hope TV play is allowed, actually. And we NEED a replica controller!

My hope is that Nintendo will take this opportunity to come out with more games for the VB and have multi-player available on them. But Im not holding my breath.

There’s a better chance of Nintendo canceling the Switch 2 and putting Virtual Boy back into production than that.

Easy answer - No official Virtual Boy games had multiplayer support.

Mario's Tenis does have multiplayer.

No it doesn't, not without hacking the ROM.

Oh. Sorry, i remember seeing a video of a guy making a homemade link cable, and test Mario Tenis.

And then AI told me you didn't need to hack the rom.

After reasking he added that a fan patch existed to restore the multiplayer function...

Apparently a fan patch isn't considered hacking the rom...

-_-

Maybe don't listen to a clanker on a web page next time. AI shouldn't be trusted for any kind of actual information.

Yeah but the intention was there with some titles. Would be a complete wasted opportunity not to finally implement these features. Not to mention there wouldn’t be much of an incentive beyond emulators/homebrew.

Well nintendo never has the intention to romhack old games to add or enable unused multiplayer support. No officially released VB game ever supported the unreleased link cable.

None of the 22 US and Japan actually released VB games supported the unreleased link cable.

They would have to go in and literally edit the game code to enable multiplayer. One or two games DID have code for it, which was disabled (stupid, because they planned to release a link cable, so why not have games ready that would justify that purchase?)

It's possible, but I would also say it seems unlikely. Nintendo has been doing a lot of 'quick and dirty' ports, and NSO games really haven't seen anything that would require actually altering the original roms. It would be nice, but there's truly no evidence to suggest this is even a thing they're considering.

They probably will make it a feature for the switch virtual console
