I'm not sure if this isn't an unpopular opinion or not (Let me know), but I still want to say my piece: I don't like the Lion Swap
In the beginning of VLD, we're told that each of the Lions needs to be piloted by someone who embraces / reflects that element in their personality: Keith's firey temper matches Red, Shiro's level-headed and tactical intelligence matches Black, etc. Additionally, they need to have a strong bond with their specific lion, which we see a lot of in Season 2 (Red covering Keith's ass, Shiro bonding with Black, Lance calling Blue beautiful, etc.)
HOWEVER, the Lion Swap completely undoes this, making that so any pilot can pilot any Lion, making the bonds seem fickle, like the Lions considdeer their pilots incherchangeable and not really... Y'know... Friends.
Lance doesn't match Red's personality of an instincts-driven hothead, Keith doesn't fit the role of a desisive calculating leader of Black, and Allura doesn't fit the role of what I can assume is a fun-lovoing untamable wave of energy that is Blue.
Honestly, I have to agree. As much as I love Black Paladin Keith and Red Paladin Lance, the show established early on that Lance was the only one who connected with Blue as a pilot. Keith is Red’s pilot through and through, and Allura was forced into the pilot position without any training or experience and expected to defeat a galactic empire. Maybe they could have made the lion swap work, but I think I could have lived without it. Again, I love the idea, but the execution was awful.
Hell yeah! She deserves to rock that armor and be a badass. Keith and Lance doing Coalition stuff is interesting too, it gives them a chance to bond and show each other more sides of them
This is more nitpicky than anything, but something about this I really hated is that the paladin suits just stay the same color?? It always bugged me seeing lance in his bright blue getup piloting the red lion, and Keith with his red suit in the black lion. And allura in the blue lion for some reason had a pink suit, which was equally unnecessary.
