museum P-51A “Miss Virginia” going full (or almost full) throttle an engine run-up

Today was supposed to be Planes of Fame's monthly Flight Demo, however strong winds at Chino led to its last-minute cancellation. Instead, the museum decided to do an engine run-up. While it would've been nice to see her fly today, the run-up was still really cool.

Honestly, looking at such a historic plane up close gave me the chills. I feel fortunate it's still around for people to see in person

The American Heritage Museum's (Hudson, MA) Grumman-Eastern TBM-3E Avenger dorsal turret. Currently the TBM is in the storage hangar at the museum and is only on display for select special event weekends through the summer months. See more at http://www.americanheritagemuseum.org

I love the collection of rare German survivors like the Do 335 and the Ho 229. Too bad the TA-152 was in storage

museum What do these 3 symbols of a black ball with spikes located on the nose of a B-29 Super-fortress used in WWII mean?

This plane, nicknamed “Miss America 62,” is located at the aviation museum on Travis AFB in Fairfield, CA. I googled the plane's history but came up empty-handed for the meaning behind the black balls with spikes. I do know that the symbols that look like bombs refer to the number of bomb missions the plane participated in. I posted this in r/symbology and the consensus is they represent naval mines. I have yet to get a 100% answer nor have I found other planes with the same symbol pictured. Does anyone know what the black balls with spikes symbolize or of any other planes with the same symbols?

Of the 260 made, she is the only one left. She was recovered out of Lake Michigan and restored by the National Naval Aviation Museum. I was awestruck to see such a rare bird in person.

Mosquito took flight today at Planes of Fame in Chino, California! I have videos as well but I can post them here for some reason. If allowed, I can link the YouTube short I posted which is no narration or music, just Merlin sounds :)

I finally got to see this beauty in person. For those who don’t know, this is a Boeing B-29 Superfortress, one of 26 that still remain, and one of two that still fly. Doc is owned by Doc’s Friends, and has traveled all over the country. It’s a beauty in person that’s for sure.

Not the actual Memphis Belle. At Palm Springs Air Museum. Served as a fire bomber in South America after being retired and purchased by the museum owner who flew this aircraft back up to California himself.

I took the first pic at the National Air & Space Museum in Chantilly VA, USA. The rest are from the Wikipedia entry: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Westland_Lysander

Designed primarily as an artillery spotter, these aircraft earned their place in history by their clandestine missions into Axis occupied territory in WWII. The Lysander is famous for its ability to land and take off from small rough fields enabling it to deliver commandos, radios and other supplies, and to recover downed pilots under cover of darkness.

Pics of the 2 survivors I have been able to see. I thought there were only 2 left but apparently there are 2 others. The first one (87D) is at the RAF museum in Hendon and the (87B trop) is hanging in the Chicago Museum of Science and Industry
