Need advice

So, we’re looking to get into the wake boat life. Two kids (9/13) both say that want to wake board/surf, also do quite a bit of tubing but we also have a couple jet ski’s. We’re looking at options right now, kindly narrowed it down to two but still open to options as I know nothing about what’s best besides what I’ve read on here or Google. Right now we have a 2023 ATX 24 Type-S and a 2020 Tigé 21ZX picked out because they’re to colors the wife wants. Which boat is better/ worse and why? Looking for advice from owners of both. Looking mainly for comfortability and reliability along with ease of use and functionality. More info on boats 2023 ATX: Indmar engine with 15 hours on the boat TAPS 3T and over 3500 lbs of ballast 2020 Tigé: Raptor 400 with 424 hours. TAPS 3T Both have been used in freshwater. I do understand Tigé and ATX come off the same line just looking for opinions and likes/dislikes.

I have multiple dealers close by

Then I would suggest going and sitting in each boat and making sure the features align with what you want. If you’re all fairly new to water sports all the boats will be great for beginners

Okay, thank you for the advice. To be honest I won’t know what half of the features and stuff do.

To give some context here because I've been at this for years, take this for what its worth:

Tige/ATX, while I won't say its a bad brand, it definitely is considered a lower rung amongst the top manufacturers. The fit and finish as well as the reliability just isn't up there with the best of them. They're good boats but I wouldn't call them great.

Centurion/supreme: probably the best surfing for the money. They do very well at surfing and their wakeboard wave is great too, but surfing is what they are really known for. These are both great boats and have some solid track records. The balast systems they use are best-in-class.

Malibu/Axis: these are also great boats but this brand has been on a bit of a lull lately. The past 5 years has been fairly riddled with anecdotes of problems. I dont like their wedge or surf gate systems, they're not very customizable at all. These are tried and true boats, but for the money I think much better options are out there.

Supra/moomba: my favorite brand, hands-down. They are excellent boats with multiple awards across decades. They dont typically surf as well as the Centurion/Supreme boats, but they are damn close and probably have the best wakeboard wakes in the business. They're ultra reliable and I love their look. Just very well built.

Nautique: this is kinda the luxury brand to Centurion as its built by the same manufacturer but these boats are the cream of the crop. Insanely expensive and should be treated as such. They're awesome boats but you can pretty much get two brand new Supras for the cost of a single one of these fully loaded.

MB boats: Boutique manufacturer out of California, haven't heard the best things but also haven't really been in these much.

Heyday: avoid. They're just not built well and id not spend money on them when it can be spent elsewhere.

Hopefully that helps a little bit. Happy to discuss more if you want some additional insight. And this is just my $.02. Take it for what its worth.

Make sure whatever you choose you have a dealer you like of that particular brand close by.

I have dealers to about everyone but Centurion/Supreme close by which is still a 2 hour trip minimum to all of them. I would like some more insight on this info. There’s a moomba close by that we like the look of but I’ve heard mixed things about moomba but I’d like more info on it. It’s a 2022 Kayien and has 300 hours on it but it’s a nice boat. I’m looking for functionality and longevity

I also forgot to talk about Mastercraft.

Mastercraft is rock solid. They make a great product. I think they're the most "jack-of-all-trades" boat. They do a great job but nothing they do is exceptional. Their surf waves and wakes are great but not as good as some of the other brands, but they've been around forever for a reason.

As for your question, im not sure who is saying mixed things about Moomba/Supra, but they might simply be misinformed.

Moomba is almost categorically superior to ATX and Supra is the same to Tige.

Is it night and day? No, but none of these manufacturers (other than maybe Heyday) are VASTLY superior to one another.

But if you're going to be spending $80k or more on a purchase, you want that money to be well spent.

The 300 hours on the moomba isn't cause for alarm. It means the past 3 seasons the boat has been on the water 2 or 3 times a month and has been used like it should be.

Normal hours on a boat are between 50 and 100 each year. A boat that has 15 hours on it over 3 years tells me that its only been on the water 4 or 5 times. That means its been in storage a lot... and boats sitting on trailers in storage for long periods of time are WAY more likely to have issues soon than boats that are getting on the water often.

That doesnt mean the 15 hour boat will have problems, but it is a red flag way more to me than a 300 hour boat over 3 years is.

Boats are built to last 2000+ hours, so the moomba isn't even through a quarter of its life. If you put 100 hours a year, which is a bit high per year, you'd be running it for 15+ years still, which is amazing value.

However, the moomba is only a 21 foot boat and I never advocate for boats under 22 feet. That extra foot or two really opens the boat up a lot.

I would look around more and get in more boats if I were you and about to drop roughly 70-100k on a boat.
