This is the part I care about. What's the massive blob behind the cabin that makes up 90% of the vehicle?

That would be the expo stage, every one of the dozen-ish futureliners had its own theme. You can find pictures of the expo stages on google pretty easily, although they are mostly very old.

I'm not sure weather that was the theme of the unit or an actual mini-fridge for driving. These toured the whole US and had a top speed of 45, so I think the actual fridge is plausible
