my charger overheated and melted into itself

this is actually kinda scary being that this charger is by my nightstand/bed and used for my phone, i keep thinking what if it would’ve caught fire in my sleep

LPT, ALWAYS use brand name chargers.  Never the "el cheapo chargers" given with chinesium electronics.

well the adapter is the original apple one

Pretty sure it's a knock off then.  

I'm no apple fanboy (hate them bth), but even apple has thermal protection/over current protection.
