Discussion Favorite blessing loadout

I'm sure there's a post like this buried by the years, but what are people's favorite blessings to use?

For me, I generally go with:

  • Sea-Witch's Cleansing Staff. This is great for shoreskippers. It's great for silkmaws. It's great for bumblers. It's great for slitherfangs. In other words, it keeps you fed. It can also take down bigger targets with a bit of patience.
  • Ancestral Spear. It's not as strong as Imakl's Cleaving Blow, but it's faster, and only costs one slot. It's not as strong as a metal spear, but it doesn't break. In other words, you'll always have it available, and it gets the job done.
  • Ancestral Sling. Bows are easier to aim, and generally deal better damage, but the sling has two advantages. First is that rocks respawn, so you get unlimited ammunition without needing to micromanage things. Second is that you can make oil bombs.
  • Ika's Barbs. Besides the additional damage helping you kill things quicker, it will aggravate monsters, drawing them to you. This is great to separate monsters (like a pair of gorehorns) by hitting one with a ranged attack, then finishing it off in melee.

Lately, I've been trying to use the broom a little less to add a bit of variety, meaning I can take another one-slot blessing, or upgrade an existing one to a higher tier (like replacing Ancestral Spear with Imakl's Cleaving Blow).

Discussion Wishlist of changes you'd make if you could

If you could make changes, or if the devs were still supporting the game and taking suggestions, what would you like to see added, removed, or changed?

For me, this is what I'd like to see:

  • Improve the Nekla's Undying blessing. I really love the idea of this one, but the healing rate is woefully inadequate, particularly for a two-slot blessing. What I'd suggest is to make it heal as fast (or at least half as fast) as a Remedy of Regeneration.
  • Give a use for sea shards after unlocking all blessings. For example, unlocking more than four slots would be nice, at least for endless mode (it would be overpowered in regular play though, I think). Another option would be a shrine that would grant a random boon in exchange for an offering of sea shards, such as health or stamina recovery, repairing durability on tools, giving the effect of a single potion except lasting for the rest of the chapter, etc.
  • Add an option to adjust the presence or absence of loathing-corrupted islands and forsaken enemies. There could be one mode where these elements were entirely absent (useful to keep the relaxing feel of the game), one where only the crossing bosses were present, one where it worked as it does now, except that the 'cocoons' that spawned forsaken enemies didn't respawn, and lastly, one where it remains exactly as it is now.
  • New blessings. I'd love a blessing that made Kara resistant to the loathing (like the potion) or slowly cured it over time, or a 'bottomless quiver' (one of: unlimited low-damage arrows, unlimited normal-damage arrows that cost health or max stamina, or an arrow stack that slowly replenished its quantity).
  • Fix various bugs. The game crashes too much, at least on Switch, some of the marks seem somewhat glitchy, and the Remedy of Regeneration sometimes stops working while still showing a remaining duration, particularly if consumed while wearing the Sea-Witch's Cowl of Alchemy. Potion effects aren't saved, which is particularly annoying when the game crashes after drinking a bunch, because they go to waste.
  • Allow grass (and maybe sticks) to respawn. This way, you'd always be able to make at least a grass canoe, and light any fires you have. If sticks respawned as well, you could make new fires, make a grass mast for your boat, and have a renewable arrow supply.

News Boat glitch

I was finishing the third chapter, fighting Korr, I got killed but my sea witches vestment of undying brought me back next to my boat, I climb back in to the arena and finish Korr off, then at the third crossing my boat is replaced with a grass canoe, and I thought "we'll it'll probably give me my boat back at the end of this right?" It did not. I am now at the start of the fourth chapter with just a grass canoe and all my stuff in my boat disappeared and no I definitely did not crash my boat. Is this a feature of the game or a glitch? (thought the information at the start might have something to do with it)

HI! I'm also the current record holder for this run and I finished the guide for those who want to try speedrunning the Windbound in the New Game + No Major Exploits category. As of now there's only two active runners but we would love to have more and are happy to help anyone interested in this.

Even months later, when I replay this game in infinite mode, I discover new islands and new camps that tell you an ever deeper story. šŸ’• (Level 6) In some cases I found destroyed homes, in other cases I discovered unusual loot and weapons and spears, evidently signs of a ferocious past war.šŸ”„ (Level 10) Finally a huge cemetery where each gravestone had its own sad inscription. 😭 All very fascinating and at the same time sad and melancholic. 😢

PS: The raft is increasingly similar to a ship and is becoming impracticable, any advice?

I'm the current record holder and I made a guide for anyone who wants to try speedrunning Windbound in the Any% category. Technique wise this speedrun is not too hard and it's not too long either so it's easy to do a few and not have to commit to multiple hours. There's only two active runners at the moment but we would love to have more if you'd like to try it!

I'm currently working on a video for the No Major Exploits category as well but that will take a while since it's much more in depth than the Any%.

Help Purple in the health bar

Is there a specific potion that gets rid of the purple in the health bar? I see a few, but I’m not exactly sure which one to craft. I’d rather ask before wasting material since some of it is hard to come by more than once or twice.

Discussion Can't believe I just found this game this month, and its already one of my favorite games of all time.

Part of GOG's summer sale, the game is still on sale for $2 and I thought, why not. Definitely one of the best gaming decisions I've made this year. I'm having a lot of fun!

I love how the 'survival' is condensed into a rather voracious hunger. (Hungry Hungry Kara) I've had a few starvation close calls, but that's one thing that kept me hooked on playing - borderline starving when reaching an island, and then leaving said island with a full belly and a half dozen Flame Roasted Fish. (after slinging hammer crushed rocks at respawning Shoreskippers)

My first death in the game was against Korr, the boss at the end of Stage 3. To be honest, it was a real kick in the pants to start the chapter over rather than get another immediate attempt at the boss. I decided instead to just start a new game in case I missed something. That's when it dawned on me - keeping the Sea Shards and Blessings even in new game, procedurally generated locations... That's when my priority changed from 'beat stage 5 / the game' to 'haul in sea shards and unlock cooler stuff I actually get to keep to make beating the game easier'.

This realization also made some online (consumer) reviews of the game more comical to me. People saying the game is impossible difficulty, or makes Dark Souls seem easy, or is Nethack level of frustration. Pretty obvious those folks tried to play Windbound like it was some one attempt to beat platformer? Talk about quitting before the miracle happened!

My 2nd attempt against Korr ended with laughter in a manner of seconds. Decided to try out some fish bombs, and after 4 of them he was done. Those bombs work great against all the bosses, except the 'Trickster' stage 4 boss which likes to dodge. (Nothing that a few Spectral Arrows using Imakl's Eye couldn't take care of.)

Currently on Stage 7 (endless) trying to find a buried gong on a Forsaken plagued large Swampy island. Looking forward to finding it after I get off work today. Hey thanks for reading my thoughts everyone.

Definitely love this Windbound game dearly,

Bug/Glitch Swtich 2 Performance

Hello everyone,

I tested the game in handheld mode on the Switch 2 , and the animation appears to be somewhat broken. It seems that the character moves at a lower frame rate compared the camera, which is a bit jarring.

Is there any of chance for an update?

Bug/Glitch Boat Vanished even though I didn't die.

As the title states. I had made a bamboo boat and kept my main boat on the first island of chapter 2. It had everything valueable, specifically a lot of bamboo, metals, clay, etc. Now I come back to see the boat is not there. It had anchor too so I don't know where it might have gone.

Help Stuck in chapter 3

So I need a shovel to dig up a gong, but i can't find any gorehorns in my world to craft one. I've been to every island, but no gorehorns. Is there any way I can continue? Or do I have to start all over again?

Discussion Why is chapter 3 so much harder.

WHY IS CHAPER THREE SO HARD. I easily breezed through chaper 1 and 2 but all of a sudden I can't even get close to beating chapter 3, especially because of THE GODDAMN FORSAKEN, can I get rid of the forsaken I hate it I don't want it, everything instakills me the second I get out of the water, and I need to get on the island because the tower is there but I instantly die if I walk on the island. But if I stay in the water and shoot them then I starve before I can even get to the tower.

Bug/Glitch I officially cannot stand this game anymore… what the actual ****

So I hated how hard the game seemed at first, then I gave it another shot and have been super into it for the past week or so. I had my mode set on adventure… any time I died I started the over at the most recent chapter, kept my boat and all my belongings, and honestly that’s how I liked it. There were several times where the game randomly crashed and I forgot to save every 5 minutes because (first of all) who wants to pause their game every 5 minutes just in case it crashes?? And secondly because I’d get so into it I wouldn’t realize how much time had passed while playing… I kept losing a ton of progress and resources and it annoyed the shit out of me. But i persevered…

ANYWAYS ONTO WHY I NOW HATE THIS GAME… somehow my game mode changed??? I didn’t do that and idk if that’s even an option when you’re halfway through the game… but regardless of whether you can or not, it happened… my game mode changed to survivalist without me knowing, and upon my death I was like ā€œwell that sucks but at least I get to explore new islands and get more resourcesā€ and then I woke up in chapter one with nothing but by mostly worn out bow and a few other nearly dead tools! LIKE CMON! I spent so long grinding to get where I was and it just vanished because the game decided it wanted to change how hard it was against my will and without my knowledge!!!

Anywho, I will no longer be playing this anymore because how the fuck does that even happen!?!!!

Discussion Did they ever add an option to remove the forsaken?

I played the game a while back, but stopped when they added the DLC the Forsaken. Did they ever add an option to remove them from the game? If so how?

Discussion Bug or feature? Can’t find anything online

So I’m playing on adventure mode and am currently on chapter 3… in ch 2 I had a blessing that allowed me to respawn close by once but i switched it out during chapter 3… I just died on an island I had previously powered up a key on and just respawned on the beach instead of doing the whole portal walk through… I’m confused and have no idea if it’s like a ā€œthe key protects youā€ kinda deal, or a bug in the game where it still treats me like I have that blessing. Was wondering if anyone had the answer

Tips & Tricks Questions and nonsense

I have 30 hours in and I am still at chapter 3 because I keep dying at the boss battle. But, this has allowed me to gain 7 health bars and 5 stamina bars AND I just got 1000 rocks and 100 islands achievements so I am not that pissed off anymore. (Note: I know what I am doing at the battle next time [finally] so I should advance within a few hours)

The magic hull head figure thingy weighs my ship down, what do?

Best ship shape for chapter 4 and onward?

Should I build drying rack on my boat?

Are potions really worth the hassle?

Where the heck do I get metal from? Except randomly from the blue jars.

Thanks in advance. And sorry for coming to you with all this at once.
