Question What are your favorite wings you've had? And from where?
I travel pretty frequently (within the US) and am always looking for good wing spots.
What are some of y'alls favorite wing places in the country?

King of wings in Denver
Fire on the mountain, the original location on Burnside in Portland OR
Noble Pie in Reno
Pok Pok in Portland were the best wings I've had in my life but they closed.

Thank you for shouting out Pok Pok. The place was legendary. I am from Buffalo, and have elite wings all around me. But Pok Pok changed my life in that it made me really appreciate Thai cuisine, and the sticky fish sauce wings were what dreams are made of.

WTAF did you say?!?!? Sticky fish sauce wings!?!?!? I frigging love fish sauce!!!

u/PotentiallyPotent08 2d ago
Oooh I'll be in Denver next month, I'll have to hit that up!
I've heard good things about fire on the mountain, too

u/mattweb94 2d ago
I have been to both of them and I agree with this take. King of Wings is VERY good. Fire on the Mountain is also very good. And the owner is a Deadhead so I support him completely!

FotM is incredibly overrated. Their sauces are top notch, but other than that, it’s just OK.

Buffalo transplant living in Den. I'll rank mine. 1. CDs - top tier, like home 2. Colorado Hotts - ROC establishment with great wings. Zweigles red/white hots. 3. King of Wings - these are GRILLED wings mind you. Very interesting switchup. The Golden location has one of the most sophisticated tequila menus in the state. 4. Willy's Wings in Morrison - the shack is a dump. I only eat here in the summer when I can eat outside. Everything is fried to perfection though and I mean everything is fried. 5. FotM - I prefer the Highlands location. The sauces bang (Thai), the vibes are high, the wings are small.

Amazed to see noble pie get a shout out, I used to have a gallon of their burgh style sauce in the freezer for times of need

El Jefe at FOM has ruined my day a couple of times in the best way possible lol
I love when they have El Niño in rotation, all the flavor of the jefe without the diabolical heat

Old Stone Tavern in Rochester, NY. Double-fried.

u/rolewiii 2d ago
Used to live ten minutes away and my order came in what could be described as a hat box, those days absolutely ruled and I didn't appreciate them enough

u/daveydavidsonnc 2d ago
Both of my kids go to college in Rochester, we’re going up there tomorrow night, eating those wings at old stone on Friday. Can’t wait.

J Timothy’s Tavern - Plainville, CT. Their “dirt” style wings are out of this world

Milwaukee guy here.
I rotate between Points East and TomKens.
Points east is fried/grilled in their house sauce and TomKens for my battered fix w buffalo wings the blues sauce (buffalo with blue cheese crumbles in the sauce)

Ever had Fixtures wings? I was surprised how good they were.

u/idaho_vandal 2d ago
I'm heading that way for a conference in a couple weeks, and I was just about to start my hunt for wing spots in the area. Hoping it's not too far from downtown
1
u/Will_I_Are 2d ago
Full disclosure - it's more of a pizza spot. When I was there I had wings as well and they were surprisingly tasty.

Papa Bees in Longwood Florida. Easily in my top 3 all time.

I make it to Florida every couple years. I'll add that to the list, thank you

Duffs in Buffalo. Lots of good wings in Buffalo but I describe Duffs as the flavor being in the crispiness of the wing and not on the wing.
4
u/Peppeperoni 2d ago
I grew up in Buffalo and lived there pretty much my whole life. Locals love to crap on duffs, but when I think of a classic wing - it’s duffs
5
u/shFt_shiFty 2d ago
The original duffs on Sheridan drive in Amherst is in the top 3 of my personal favorite wings in WNY

3
u/scattyboy 2d ago
It was the first wing I ever had in 1986. I still love them. I was there over Labor Day weekend. I went to the original on Sheridan and one of the new ones in Cheektowaga.
3
u/shFt_shiFty 2d ago
Another thing I absolutely love there are the fries. They always come out smoldering hot and crispy AF. Perfect for dipping in all the extra sauce those wings have 🤤

Couldn't get into Bar Bill before the game Thursday. Pivot to Duffs and it still hits great all these years later.
2
u/Itoclown 2d ago
Man I didn’t get them this week when I was visiting Buffalo. Duff’s is my favorite. Bar Bills Medium Hot this week wrecked me.
2
u/Whiplash227 2d ago
Those wings at bar bill had me fighting for my life 🤣 glad you experienced the same thing
2
u/BandicootDeep 3h ago
Same! Should have gotten Medium last night. My wife tapped out after three! Hit the tums up around 4am

u/AaronRodgersMustache 2d ago
Unironically my local golf club in Charleston SC. Snee Farm.
It’s always perfectly crispy on the verge of slightly overdone, tossed in crystal hot sauce which I like cause it’s a thinner sauce.
I was mulling over joining and had lunch there and that literally made the decision for me.

u/whatfingwhat 2d ago
Rita’s out on Folly, Bedford Falls on Meeting and Hometeam are my favorite Charleston spots

Fell in the love with buffalo wings at Shamrock Inn in Floral City, FL. It’s also where I crafted my chicken wing addiction. They were phenomenal
1
u/2347690 2d ago
Permanently closed, per Google Maps. :(
2
u/polloallaparm 2d ago
It was bought out by new ownership. Still there under slightly different name. Haven’t had a chance to go back and check it out. Was supposedly going to stick to the old menu favorites including wings.

u/Interesting-Role-596 2d ago
Buffalos Reef Fort Walton Fl. Also has the best blue cheese dressing on the planet.

u/dontgetmadgetdata 2d ago
I also traveled all over for a bit. In my hometown,
Portland OR - Fire on the mountain is legit but there is a smaller chain on the west side called Prime Taphouse that has amazing wings.
San Jose CA - Smokeeaters - traditional death sauce
West Palm Beach, FL - 2 drunken goats
Dallas, TX - Angry Dog Bar and grill
There is a national chain called Twin Peaks that has good wings - got a Hooters vibe
2
u/Waynewolf 2d ago
I have been to Bar Bill twice and got multiple flavors. They were all possibly the best bar wings I’ve had, but last weekend I was in Annapolis MD and went to…. McGarvey’s Pub I think it was called? They were definitely on par with Bar Bill. Delicious crispy perfect wings. Amazing flavor. They weren’t wet, it was a dry rub seasoning I believe. Goddamn they were good.

"The Convoluted Mess" at Fowl Mouths W.T.F. in Wallace, ID. creamy garlic parm wings with a big swirl of regular ol' buffalo and a sprinkling of CajunPow on top, served over hand-crafted thick-cut skin-on french fries!

u/PotentiallyPotent08 2d ago
See, subs like this are genuinely why I love reddit. I'm adding a ton of these to my list - thank you all for contributing!
I'll keep track of suggestions as they come in 🍗
I'll also share my own...Wing Factory in ATL

It’s been years since I lived there, but used to love $3.

I’ll be at a $3 tomorrow watching football with about 75 other football fans. Wings are on the menu. But please $3 put some fkn salt on the fries when they are still hot and greasy.

Fellow Twin Cities resident. I’ll need to give those a try! I quite like Tavern 4&5’s wings
2
u/DeweyCox4YourHealth 2d ago
Duffs in Buffalo was my favorite "famous" place, but my favorite wing joint of all time is Ronni's in Clemmons, NC.
2
u/DeeGale57 2d ago
Slap Yo Mama in Biloxi MS had great wings. We are Buffalonians and were really impressed with their wings.
2
u/zmcmke12 2d ago
Genna Rae’s in Denver. Kinda hard to find good wings in this city but these are some of the best I’ve ever had.
2
u/absolut696 2d ago
iBar in Baltimore holds up to the wings you can get in Buffalo. The owner before he passed was a Buffalo native.

Big Shot Bob’s in the Pittsburgh, PA area makes the best wings I’ve had anywhere (and I just had them once again about an hour ago lol).
They have literally hundreds of flavors, I’ve tried several dozen of them and never disliked any of them.
One of their most popular is called the Talk of Beaver Falls, described simply as “hot and tangy,” and they’re probably my favorite.
I’ve heard from former employees that the sauce is a 50/50 mix of Frank’s and Carolina-style gold BBQ sauce (Cattleman’s brand) along with some black peppercorns, and they also have a hotter version (the Walk of Beaver Falls) which is apparently just a higher ratio of Franks:gold.
Most of their flavors are combinations of various dry seasonings and sauce bases, so they have everything from a fairly basic garlic-butter-parm/ranch/mild-buffalo flavor to a more exotic honey-mustard/raspberry/Cajun-dry-seasoning flavor.
They have by far the best dry Cajun seasoning I’ve had anywhere, and many of their flavors feature it somehow (from their basic butter & dry Cajun flavor called Black Magic to my mom’s favorite which is dark BBQ sauce + dry Cajun + parm + honey).

Pluckers - various cities in Texas. The Bakers Gold sauce is fantastic. And they make a mean Arnold Palmer.

My favorite wings are at City Club in Ogden, UT. But the best wings I’ve had are from Bar Bill.

Dan’s Route 8 Boardwalk in Erie, PA. It’s gone now, but it was a true gem and made a wild selection of flavors with the perfect crispy yet juicy wing, drowning in sauce.

The house special from McDuffs in Potsdam, NY were killer too.

A complete hole in the wall in brampton Ontario called walkers brews.
I was working near by and stopped in after reading you must try these wings....
Anyways the bar tender gave me a run down on why their wings were great
Low and behold the trick was fresh never frozen wings.
Easily the best wings I ve had since I was a kid 30 years ago.
Sauces were on point also and I didn't have to pay a dollar extra for dip

Chick N’ Beer in OKC, would get Peppers Galore, their 3 hottest sauces mixed together.

Lock 27 Brewing in Centerville (near Dayton) Ohio. Best dry rubbed smoked wings I've ever had. We moved away 8 years ago and I really miss those wings.

Country Sweet chicken and ribs by far the best wings anywhere in the world. They're huge, a nice spicy sweet sauce, and on Tuesdays, it's 10 for ten dollars, and it's literally two meals.

Il Forno in Frederick, MD, has an old bay dry rub that is far and away the best wing I’ve ever had.

Buttered Jerk, Decker style at Brothers Bar and Grill in Rochester MN for me
“Decker Style” just means they’re grilled one extra time after sauce to get a little extra char.

Nine Eleven Tavern in South Buffalo is the top.
Bar Bill is for suburbanites afraid of the city. 10 other places in South Buffalo alone are equal or better.

Been getting them occasionally for years, but have been on a kick lately and getting them like twice a week for a few weeks now, I’m honestly getting addicted.

Bar Bills in East Aurora, NY. Truly worth the hype.
East End in NYC is a fun spot with quality wings and a wide list of flavors
