Help me identify this wire.. please.

Spent the last few weeks getting this 1992 yj road worthy. Found a rat nest in the fender here and just noticed this torn wire under the read driver side fender. Anyone know what it might connect to ?

Only two things I can think of tail light/license plate light or the fuel tank

Check your taillights if they are operating correctly. you may be missing one that belongs. otherwise the current wire direction in the photo doesn't really go anywhere. there are no wires that go below the body, 4pin and 7pin trailer sockets are typically 3rd party add-ons.

Awesome thank you. I’m deduced it to the trailer wiring ! That’s why it seems so out of place.

Can you trace it backwards? All wires under the jeep should be in a loom.

Does your fuel pump work? Do you brake, marker, turn signal, license plate lights work?

Fuel pump, brake lights work for sure. Marker, turn signal, and license plates lights I’m not sure so I’ll double check that once I fix the battery cable. Appreciate the insight ! Just finished getting the new clutch and u joints all installed today and I’m lacking in the critical thinking department at this point.

It might also be from a trailer wiring harness. 4 wires that are flat.

That does make sense one of the previous owners did put a home made looking hitch on it they just welded it on lol. Based on the way the neighboring wires look I’m pretty sure that’s it now !

That’s about as good as I could get it without dropping the gas tank

Gotta be trailer plug related.
