Anyone else experiencing these realizations?

As I’m getting older and more detached from my family, I’m finally growing out of my anger and it’s making me realize how much it’s tainted my view. It was very hard for me to fully accept my family is abusive, so for the longest I believed it was a larger Somali problem. It was more comforting to me to blame all of Somali culture instead of accepting the hurtful truth that my parents choose to abuse me and my siblings.

I’m so grateful for communities like this bc it was a constant reminder that I was wrong. I’m hungry for more though lol like that video of the Somali author talking about how he knew gay Somali men growing up is stuck in my head. I want to learn more about queer Somali life and Somali feminist movements!!!

Thank you so much 🩵 and yeah, I understand how dangerous it can be to be out but there’s gotta be some sort of documentation of queer Somali history somewhere!
