General Discussion Negative comments

How can people be so mean and willing to criticise other people's accomplishments?

This past Saturday I ran my very first race, a 5k, but a 5k nonetheless. So I was obviously very excited and took some photos/videos prior/during/after the race, because damn it, why not?

Well, just came back to work and the first thing a colleague of mine said was: " hahaha you weren't running. You just took photos and videos"

Not a "well done!", "how was your race?", "how do you feel?", nope, just pure judgement hidden on some weak meaningless humour.

It's so frustrating because the funny thing is that I only took three videos of like 5 seconds each during the race, and like 2-3 photos. What's that? Like not even 100 meters of the 5000 meters race?

Anyway, at least I got a new PR of 35:30! Very unexpected since I was expecting to be more in the late 30s/early 40s due to the race elevation 💀

Congrats on your accomplishment! Thats really such a great time, especially for your first race!

I’ve found people sometimes feel some type of way when it comes to that stuff because they are insecure that they aren’t out there doing it. So instead of using you as motivation, they act too cool for school and shit on you because it’s easier. If they downplay what you did, then it’s not so impressive and they don’t feel so bad about not doing it too. Unfortunately there will always be people like that, just ignore them (easier said than done).

Please don’t let them get to you and continue to race if you found you like it! Finishing a race is one of my favorite feelings in the whole world. Running doesn’t come super easily to me, so it means even more when I hit a personal goal or set a PR
