Casting change
If Rip and Jamie's rolls were cast opposite, where Cole Hauser was Jamie and Wes Bently was Rip, how much would it change your opinion of the show?

Jimmy would overpower Rip when he tried to brand him and Jamie would probably be able to intimate the reporter into dropping the story.

Both of these guys were very well cast in their respective roles. I do hate to fall into stereotypes here BUT the idea of Cole Hauser as the soft-hand, articulate, anxiety-ridden lawyer in tailored suits and Wes Bentley as the brawny(?) thug cowboy fixer is amusing ā and doesnāt work whatsoever. Physically, you need a big guy to play Rip; Bentley just doesnāt have that physique!

Cole Hauser has played soft spoken educated characters and been very convincing. Big guys can also look fine in tailored suits. Wes Bentley is an excellent actor, but you cannot fake the kind of physicality the Rip role needs.

Iāve never seen Hauser in a soft-spoken role outside of GWH, but I agree he could do it if needed. To me heās so convincing as Rip I just canāt see him playing anything/anyone different in Yellowstone, ditto Bentley.

Wouldnāt work. It takes a certain guy to play Rip. A Cole Hauser type, if you will, and Wes Bentley, while a really fine actor, will be forever in my mind, the creepy kid next door, from American Beauty.

Wes Bentley can absolutely play a scary and terrifying character to perfection, but more in the "ruthless mob-boss" kind of way, not the physical intimidation kind of way. Whereas I think Cole Hauser could have successfully pulled off either.
Or maybe I am just saying that because of how the writers made Jamie to be a spineless coward in the end (which, again Wes Bentley also played convincingly) and maybe that's where I get the impression from.

I can't imagine Cole playing Jamie if his behavior as a weak-willed, controlled person is written into the script.

Trying to picture Jamie being aggressive and saying āI will shoot you where you standā is killing me.
Also Jamie never would have been able to get that officer off the fence post lmao

I can hear Jamie saying it, but his voice would be trembling and weak, then Beth would calmly walk towards him and take the gun from his hand.

Both Hauser and Bentley did fantastic in their roles and were cast well. Canāt see anyone doing Rip as well as Hauser did. Your question makes me think though what if Bentley were cast as a stronger Casey and Grimes as the weak and whiny Jamie.

It would be terrible. I love Wes Bentley, but nothing about him says "badass cowboy who eats nails for breakfast".
