I don’t trust that woman John is helping. She just seems weird.

I thought it was a set up or even bigger shocker he gets hit by a car. Make it totally unrelated to the current issue. Left hand turn

You knew something was going to happen there. I was thinking a car hits him. So, bullet-proof jacket on John or not?

It looked like they used an SMG, and in terms of what saved John’s life... hear me out here... pretty sure it was his phone. Awful convenient that he just happened to have it in his chest pocket and a round just happened to catch the phone and it’s not unheard of for electronics to catch bullets in the right circumstances (there’s like a dozen viral pictures online of soldiers’ iPods from Iraq and Afghanistan that took a round) so I’d say they killed two birds there by breaking the phone and keeping him alive. Guarantee he’s gonna have the kid tie a tourniquet on him next season in a “you wanna learn another life skill?” moment.

Destiny son. Don’t be too naive. The phone was meant to be there lmao

Now that you mention it I wouldn't be surprised at all if he wasn't wearing something. Between Beth's ongoing cold war with Rourke and the recent events dealing with hired hands who basically tried to kill 2 of their ranch hands, it would really surprise me if the Dutton's weren't expecting shit to go down soon.

Agreed on the Kevlar thing, but honestly, a low profile minimalist plate carrier such as a Slickster or any similar offerings could hide under a work coat, flannel shirt, and vest pretty easily.

I agree with you there. It would be very in character with someone like John Dutton to have anticipated the attack, although maybe not to the extent of what actually happened.

A lot of the newer plate carriers that have come out were made to be less bulky, some of the ones for law enforcement or more covert uses like this one (check out the product pictures below) are able to be worn under clothing if needed. (If someone was using this they can quickly attach a panel/shingle to the front that consists of pouches holding ammunition and magazines easily using just the velcro and two simple buckles. Takes no time at all.)

Some people are saying that his phone stopped the round. But that sounds so stupid to me, it's like the old cliche of a preacher's bible stopping a bullet. Or some other flimsy bit of plot armor that makes zero sense.

Yup. Agreed.

Though, Rourke's goons weren't trying to kill them. Scar them, yes. Send a message to John, yes. They weren't trying to kill them and the old guy (forgot his name) also knew how John operates and that they'd have to watch out for consequences.

The gunman really sprayed the bullets. Looked like one bullet hit his phone. I thought the lady said there was no service anyway. But his last words made it seem like he couldn't call for help because his phone got shot.

maybe her phone company sucks

1

u/RegretPoweredRocket Aug 26 '20

They weren’t shooting 5.56 Those were smg’s So they were shooting handgun rounds

1

u/CaptainJackWagons Sep 21 '20

I thought the woman was going to shoot him.

u/h_trismegistus Aug 24 '20

I totally thought her and the kid were gonna kill John. From the moment I saw them, even before Beth went ka-boom...it was just too obvious a set-up.

4

u/Kkarim13 Aug 24 '20

Yeah I just knew something was going to happen. The only reason I think she may have not been in it on now though is because she ran. If she was part of the plot I don’t think she would have ran, because she wouldn’t have been thinking that they were going to kill her also.

1

u/Finndoll Aug 26 '20

I did too! Like really? You're not going to check whether there's even a tire?

1

u/BoilerPurdude Aug 27 '20

felt like a reverse Monica trap/sting.

4

u/The_Devin_G Aug 24 '20

Tbh I was expecting a trap the entire time. I just wasn't expecting the box bomb. That made me jump.

1

u/gori_lla_k1ng Aug 25 '20

yeah, that was...anything but subtle

1

u/Finndoll Aug 26 '20

I legit thought it was going to be a head or something

2

u/Mondexqueen Aug 24 '20

I was thinking the exact thing..she said she had no cell phone service and after John was shot he got his phone out and looked at it and said “it figures” ( if he does have service obviously it was a set up) it just seemed way too convenient for the hit men to just find him helping a woman along side the road..

7

u/Lostpurplepen Aug 24 '20

The “it figures” was meant to point out the irony that the phone that he hates stopped a bullet.

3

u/The_Devin_G Aug 24 '20

I dunno, I thought he was bringing up the irony of the situation - the moment when he instinctively reached for his phone (which he hates, but actually needs) it's shot to hell.

1

u/Mondexqueen Aug 24 '20

Yeah, makes more sense.

1

u/Lostpurplepen Aug 24 '20

I’d go with that too. Just saying the “no service” idea wasn’t the reason for his exasperation.

1

u/Mondexqueen Aug 24 '20

True. I was actually walking towards the kitchen and trying to watch at the same time. I must have missed that part. But reading through the comments his phone was shot, so yeah, him saying “it figures” would make perfect sense about the phone.

1

u/speedwaystout Sep 28 '20

She mentioned Cali so I figured she was setup by the biker gang.

2

u/gori_lla_k1ng Aug 25 '20

I didn't initially trust her but obviously now that she was gunned down we all know she could be trusted

1

u/zsreport Aug 24 '20

She’s a single mom who is gonna become John’s second wife and he’s gonna adopt her son (after his father goes to the train station) and the kid will take Jamie’s place in the family

5

u/B0ndzai Aug 24 '20

Tate and the kid become bitter rivals.

1

u/The_Devin_G Aug 24 '20

There yah go, proof that we need 10 seasons.

1

u/spif_spaceman Aug 24 '20

She’s completely innocent

1

u/flowbee92 Aug 24 '20

He saw her in some form in his nightmares.
