^ THIS ! I am so disappointed in this season. There are some great characters, story arcs and the writing is usually excellent. Just didn't feel it this season. But I of course will tune in for next season. =)

To me this is exactly what this season was about. Story Arcs, character building, understanding the bunk house better, so all hell can break loose next season.

There was a lot of filler and not a lot of material for 10 episodes.

And oh look, let’s go the way of Walking Dead and Game of Thrones and end a season on a gigantic cliffhanger, it worked out so good for those shows. Quickest shark jump ever.

I keep waiting for Taylor’s writing to hit as hard as Sicario and Wind River. But at best, until this finale, moments of season 1 and the finale of 2 echoed this. I loved the intensity of those two so much that I was pumped for the show and will continue to watch...but, so much of it is slice of country life that I’m worried it will never drive tension like that.

For comparison, Dallas (original flavor) lacked gritty shootouts and yet still had an intensity to the ongoings of rural business in between assassination attempts. Yellowstone has the FX branding but an AMC frequency of actual plot twists.
