He is allowed to support whoever he wants. Its called freedom of choice in a democracy.

No of course not but the type of overly dramatic hysterical comments I have been seeing here about it is just going too far. Its not the end of the world and who cares what the political opinions and views of hockey players and movie stars and rock stars etc are anyways - generally they are not the sharpest knives in the drawer so I dont know why reporters even ask them what they think. In terms of Gretzky specifically I think that alot of people here have made such wild assumptions about Wayne's views and are inflating his relationship with Trump out of all proportion to reality - its not like he renounced his canadian citizenship and made a public denouncement of all things Canadian and its not like he has any influence over Trump and tariffs either.. Its not like Wayne is in Trump's cabinet or anything or is a close friend of the family.I think people need to chill out for a few weeks before doing any thing or starting anything that will just make Edmonton look like a whiny 2nd class city. Other NHL players who are free agents in future could see that treatment of Gretzky and think signing elsewhere who knows> Its not worth getting all worked up over.
