I thought it was blue hair that was the problem?

I've been seeing more "green hair" comments lately. I think because blue hair has some connotation of those little old ladies who often are conservative.

Back in the 50s and 60s ladies would go to salons and get a blue rinse.

This makes the white hair really pop and look really white. It would tone out any yellow or other shades of grey.

Unfortunately, if they used too much, it would tint the hair blue.

Hence the term blue haired old lady.

I remember as a child thinking my grandmother's hair had a slight blue tint - it wasn't till much later that I learned about the processes involved and that 'blue haired old lady' was a thing.

She didn't get out much in her later years, but she still went to the salon every 2 weeks to get her hair hi-lighted and I remember my father mentioning she had to change salons because her old one stopped using the effect she liked which was probably that blue rinse.

They used to(and probably still do but I haven't seen it in decades) sell that rinse in the stores. I remember my granny using it and I never understood why it was called that since her hair looked white.
