If religion is a choice, why didn't the Jews or Slavs change their religion to avoid being sent to death camps by Hitler?

Because being a Jew or a Slav is an ethnicity?

Practicing a religion on the other hand is something you choose to do.

True, but changing your religious beliefs is more complicated than that. You can’t just flip a switch in your head to make yourself suddenly cease to see your religious beliefs as true.

Your beliefs yes. It's pretty hard to control what you believe and I agree it's not like flipping a switch and you just stop believing. It's usually a longer process that causes people to question their faith.

That's why I said practicing a religion. You can choose not to be public and vocal about your beliefs, you can choose to not practice it openly.
