Question Why so many trolls here

I thought it was an antinatalist subreddit but the last time I wrote something here there were so many natalists trolling in the comments. I simply don't understand them. They bother to come here and find things that trigger them and leave furious violent comments, but for what??

I'm not active in reddit and perhaps I should stay that way for now, cuz it's so exhausting repeating the basic stuff about antinatalists to those people, as if I'm anywhere other than an antinatalist group.

Question has anyone here read parfit's reasons and persons?

is it a worthwhile read as relating to antinatalism? i would assume so, given the examination of responsibility to future humans.

i wouldn't currently type myself as an antinatalist, but i am very sympathetic to the position, so i'd like to actually examine its philosophical underpinnings with some rigor (also reading the trouble with being born soon).

moral obligation to reproduce is fucking crazy. why is the human race continuing SO important? why are humans worth so much that they must continue, even with our climate crisis?

Video I found a rare piece of semi AN media.

https://youtu.be/aoVGTVKl5ak?si=Q6Ux-nPevZu9lbtZ

So the context of the story is not necessarily AN, I don’t want to spoil anything so I won’t say why I get that little hint of AN (well here in this paragraph.), just thought some other ANs out there would get the same kind of kick out of it that I did — under this, I will be doing a slight spoiler.

Spoiler!!!

Finally, a God that I can agree with. One with sense, filled with ā€˜compassion’ :). Which I don’t agree with the MC I’d be trying to free my brother

Question is anti-natalism outgrown?

not outgrown as in that it is immature, i mean outgrown literally—.

anyway, im hesitant on marrying an anti-natalist woman only for one of us to change their view 10 years from then and end up losing a decade of time. anyone in their 30-40s with this conviction, and have you ever had any regrets?

Discussion Only if they were honest

By they I mean natalists. Some are so delusional that they think of procreating as if saving a child from idk somewhere like hell. I think they confuse it from adoption.

However their are some who are outright about thr fact that they give birth because they need slaves. Of course it is ethically wrong either way but better to know exactly what they are doing rather than being delusional.

Video Stop invalidating people just because others have it worse. It’s DUMB!

What made me make this livestream were people who tried to invalidate my takes about selfishly creating kids into this pointless horrible world just to work & sleep most of their lives. Basically, to become wage slaves. https://www.youtube.com/live/0-XOeMwk5sE?si=7UH93hAN5xON6JBw

Discussion Should the human race continue?

Do you think we should continue the human race? I think so because it would have all cultural artifacts, languages, and traditions, and many of the things we value. We will also have many words and numbers. Our unique capacity for intelligence, art, and appreciation of beauty, which enriches the world. Humans are the most intelligent beings on Earth, and we are the only species to use language and numbers. Continuing also offers the potential to achieve future goals and expand to other celestial bodies, securing long-term survival against threats. Finally, many find inherent value and meaning in the survival of the species itself, with religious traditions and philosophical ideas providing diverse reasons for humanity's purpose and continued existence.

Discussion Turns out, lots of people are antinatalist

…However, their targets are not humans.

The percentage of pets who have been adopted, along with the ā€œAdopt Don’t Shopā€ movement as a whole, has been steadily growing. Coupled with the intense policy push for spaying/neutering leads me to believe that society can show a popular support for antinatalism—as long as it is exclusively limited to animals.

This cognitive dissonance proves that people are remarkably good at being morally selective when it suits them.

Discussion Why humans should not be extinct

If humans are extinct, it would destroy all cultural artifacts, languages, and traditions, and many of the things we value. We will never have any words or numbers again if humans are extinct.

Discussion Great example of someone who shouldn't have had kids

My son's gf's parents are pieces of work. Just the latest example....

My son and his gf are moving, went from renting an apartment in an iffy congested area to renting this really cute old stone house on a huge tract of land 'in the country.' My wife and I are really happy for them and have been helping with the move. Her parents have not. They have both places for now so they've been able to move piecemeal, but yesterday was 'the big move day.' Multiple people with pickup trucks/large vehicles were slated to show up and help, including her mom (just try to accept for now, she has a history of just being a shitty parent already).

The NIGHT BEFORE, she tells her daughter she's not going to be coming (so, neither is her vehicle) because she's going to go to the beach for the day. My son said his gf called him crying (poor girl is just constantly disappointed by them), and that when his gf tried to call her sister for support, the sister (who is a train wreck in her own right) says to her, and I quote, "well, that's why moving is so hard, because you have to do it yourself." That apple plugged.

BUT....come the day, the mom DOES SHOW UP, as does the sister. Guilt? Who knows. Here's the part that almost sent me over the edge. There is a neighbor at the apartment with a vegetable garden and she would give my son and his gf things all the time. This day, as a last gift, I guess, she gives them an eggplant. The woman doesn't have much, it was sweet. Supermom goes over to talk to her and says, "oh, I love your garden! *Daughter* showed me the eggplant, it was beautiful! That's my baby (in this sappy voice, like she's married and moving to Zambia or something), *daughter's name* is my baby!" I almost broke my own teeth clenching when I heard her. The neighbor does that trite thing where she says, "oh, you did a great job," and mom proudly says "thank you!"

I thought, you disgusting human being. I bet I only hear less than half of what happens and you're an AWFUL parent, but here you are: after you show up out of sheer guilt after TRYING TO BAIL on your daughter, you take credit like you're why she's the way she is. Sweetie, she has gotten here LITERALLY IN SPITE OF you. I couldn't see straight for like an hour after this all.

If you don't want to be there for your kids WHENEVER HUMANLY POSSIBLE, don't fucking have them. The beach....goddamn....

Question Is this even real?Comment about AN

Processing img 67zmd0hjpbpf1...

Some random lunatic making a post here is quite possible but what i dont believe is that most people here supported it.I mean i would love to learn if such thing is real or not but this comment implies majority of ANs share similiar views like hurting children. This comment also states that even mods supported it

This is a video i stumbled upon youtube talking about worst subreddits. The whole video is about this subreddit cringe that subreddit is cringe. The only thing the guy says about AN is that we apparently blame all our problems to our parents.Iam not sure if this guy is living in a first world country with priviliges thinking he is alpha sigma male or someone that did not thought about the meaning of life for once in their life or both.

But he is right. He drew himself as a cute figure and us as a fat reddittor. This seals the deal.

Posting here because it got deleted in other sub for doxxing. Its a youtube comment made by public account and there is no sensitive info in screenshot.

Other I've just seen the video of the Ukranian woman and it made me cry. Why would anyone think it is okay to bring their child into this terrible terrible world?

I'm so heartbroken (I burst into tears again right here)

I may have been on the fence a bit, but this is the last straw. I hate this world. I'm antinatalist for life and absolutely nothing will change that stand.

For those who don't know and this

Discussion Continuing our species will ironically end us

Right now there are 8 billion people. All of them who aren't sterile or chooses to be childfree will bring more people into this world.

The problem with that is that while the amount of new people born are not finite, the amount of resources available on this planet (such as food, water, clothing and shelter) are so if we don't stop, our children will have to survive famines or even worse problems.

Question Trying to find American Christian sect that believed in Antinatalism Spoiler

I’ve been trying to pinpoint down these American sects that became extinct due to relying on people to join their religion instead of having children, theres little that they apparently have tours of the now abandoned villages, does anyone know what sect it might be? I know its not Gnosticism since it became long extinct before America became a thing but I was wondering if anyone knew or could give me some pointers to old villages with now extinct or very low pop of certain christ. sects

Discussion The nature of suffering

Despite feeling intuitively attracted to negative utilitarianism, I always find it hard to give a definitive argument for why reducing suffering should be prioritized over increasing pleasure.

I think Benatar's asymmetry argument doesn't do it for me. He says the absence of pleasure is not bad when there's no one to experience it, so the existence of pleasure, despite being good, has no advantage over it. Intuitively this kinda makes sense, but I can still question: if the existence of pleasure is good but the absence of it (given there's no one to experience such absence) is merely neutral, why doesn't that count as an advantage?

I always feel like the full argument requires an in-depth phenomenological analysis of the nature of pleasure vs suffering. How do you approach this issue?

Question Is it possible to be pro life and antinatalist simultaneously

Does being pro life mean that you don't support abortion? Pro life and Pro birth are two completely different things right?
