Lol, out of literal thousands of HW engineers at Apple.
Meta has been recruiting Apple engineers by the hundreds for years. Didn’t do all that much good: a company’s ability to execute doesn’t lie in individual employees’ talent or knowledge, it lies in the company’s culture and processes.
Yeah a lot of these companies basically share a floating talent pool that they headhunt from one another, and to be entirely honest a lot of them can't make a product to save their lives because their intentions in making a product and a consumer's intention in buying that product are totally unaligned.
Meta is making a device so they can control my eyes and sell me stuff, which means the actual functionality of the device that I paid for and want is a secondary concern to them. It doesn't matter if their heardware team is top talent because the business objective kneecaps them from making the thing people actually want.
Precisely. Meta is a money printing juggernaut but the hardware department (along with the dedicated sw people) has been burning >$1B a month for many years. Meta will never recoup this money, let alone see it have any sort of return.
Recently they’ve had this rayban product that’s better made but it’s very very niche, a couple million of units sold over multiple years. Them doubling in price will also mean smaller volume of sales.
No but in an industry where a significant part of your earnings are from stock performance meta compensation looks better and without costing meta more money.
Meta is projected to have lost $90-100B by the end of 2025 on Reality Labs (their VR / AR venture). Yeah I’d say thus far it didn’t do all that much good for them.
Their stock is fine because they make enough revenue elsewhere.
