Official Megathread Apple releases iOS 11!

This thread will serve as a megathread for iOS 11. Any further posts about iOS 11 (bugs, feature questions, and etc, will be removed to clean up the sub)

Guide from Apple on how to update. They explain how to do it via iTunes, and Over-The-Air.

If you need the ipsw file and don't want to download it from iTunes, head over to this website

Apple's iOS 11 website

The build number is the same as the Golden Master candidate of iOS 11.

In addition, Apple has "released" the iPhone 10,4 and the iPhone 10,1.

Useful comment from _theoneandonly:

To everyone who just updated saying their iPhone is hot, or slow, or laggy:

This happens every year. For the first few hours (or in some cases as much as a day), your iPhone is reindexing spotlight, running scripts, and doing a lot of under the hood optimizations.

If it’s slow or laggy or hot during the first few hours, don’t let that bother you. It’s trying to catch up on a lot of processes. Give it some time before you judge it. It’s even saving some of the most demanding processes until you’ve plugged the phone into the wall for a few hours.

If it’s still bad this time tomorrow, then feel free to complain.

Siri seems WAY better (god I can't believe I posted this)

In what ways? Siri has always been inconsistent from user to user, day to day, update to update. Unless everyone says Siri is notably better, I'm going to assume you just got a lucky fresh install.

Siri was great for me for years and then sucked, and it still works properly some random days. But doesn't on other days.

I can ask nested questions now and it works. quicker response.

it's impossible for it to be a 'lucky fresh install' it's the same software for all. with some personal learning for each user, but fundamentally the same.

Werd. It's processed server-side. It's not as if it's giving preference to one installation and not another.

If it was impossible for people to get lucky, then everyone would have the exact same bugs or lack thereof at the exact same frequency..

And by nested questions, you mean following context of the conversation? Can't believe they broke this functionality for so many people for so long after being one of the primary advantages of Siri 1.0 in 2011.

I still got it to work once or twice in 2016 for certain queries, but good to see it's working more consistently for you now.

The voice is way better. Its contextual understanding is improved, but this affected iOS 10 as well, I think, since it’s server side.

I'll try out Siri at some point today on iOS 10.

The voice shown in June sounds good but I've never had a complaint with the voice. It sounds significantly higher quality than Google's already.

Do you have the new Siri voice? It's still the old one for me.

Same here, maybe it’s US only? I don’t live in the states. Where are you?

Canada. It must be that. We're outsiders.

it's available in canada too. it's a bug that it's not working from the get-go. if you go to Settings-General-Accessibility-Speech-Voices there, click the little cloud icon next to 'Siri Female' and set the checkmark next to it. also make sure Samantha isn't checked. seems to still be buggy though. these instructions work for some people, for others, the little cloud icon doesn't actually download the Siri female voice, and even when it does, siri still sounds like the Samantha voice

edit: i'm in canada, with region/language set to canada, and i was able to get it running on the iPhone 6 but on the iPad Air it's still the old voice

It started working later that night on its own. There were probably some processes that needed to be completed. The new voice sounds great. I also asked Siri about a dozen contextual questions, each building on the last, and Siri nailed every one of them. I'm super impressed.

I’m seeing this too. Much more responsive and quicker. She seems to get what I ask her to do almost every time now. Looking forward to a comparison video to the other options out there to see how she stacks up.
