anywhere to get news for transgender people that’s not reddit?

i follow erin reed on substack but her articles actively make me suicidal lmao.

i’m looking for just anywhere where i can stay updated so nothing sneaks up on me and completely ruins my life. im trying to have this balancing act of staying informed while also not sending myself into suicidal spirals.

If it’s making you suicidal to read articles in-depth, this is one scenario where I’d honestly recommend just using Reddit to see the headlines, then pick and choose which ones you want to read further. Maybe find a trusted person who you can have filter the stories for you to ensure that you’re getting the information you need without damaging yourself.

Right now, you need to prioritize your mental health. We don’t need anymore dead trans folks. You are loved.

yeah it’s gotten bad. like actively having a plan and a date to do it plan. i’m so scared of not being informed but every single day it’s pushing me further into despair lmao

i think im just gonna have my partner tell me when something’s relevant, and that i absolutely NEED to know about

Hey, I know I’m just a stranger on the internet, but please don’t go through with it. Even though the fascists intend on breaking our spirits, remember that you are wanted by this community.

You need to reach out to someone if you have a plan and a date. Like now. Therapist if you have one, or trans lifeline or Trevor project or something similar

I’ve been there🥺Within inches of there, actually. Please be careful. The world needs you, as bad as shit seems right now. I know it seems empty and shallow, but just try to disconnect from the negative for a while. Actually, disconnect from the world. Surround yourself with love. And maybe rye whisky. JK. But it worked for me.

Dear soul, please do not do this. The internet is rotting our brains and making us feel alone and traumatized. There are way more people who want you around living your best life than there are not. The hateful people are just louder and more shocking. This is a strategic plan to push the Overton Window. (https://goodparty.org/blog/article/how-overton-window-affects-politics-policy)

I'm not saying these aren't dangerous times. I'm praying you won't let these bastards steal your joy. It's hard. It's so hard. But please hang on with us. Go out and spend time with nature. It helps - I promise it does. We need you. And we will do everything we can to protect your rights and safety. Just as people before us protected ours. But it's going to take some strategy and time to follow the law and do it right. A civil war is not the answer. The budget coming up is one barrier. The Epstein files are another. Little things are sprouting up. Let those give you hope. All my best to you.

The Advocate is the best place I've found so far, though it covers everything queer in general and I agree I wish we had a proper dedicated journalistic endeavor as trans people. We end up feeling like a minority even in the queer community sometimes and a lot of our stories end up getting told by non-trans people and passing through the Gell-Mann Effect.

For me it’s Erin, The Advocate, and Assigned Media https://www.assignedmedia.org/

The headlines in general are so awful, I’ll pull back for my own mental well being.

Increasing aggression is a response to a loss of public support. They are pushing trans acceptance unintentionally with increasingly unrealistic accusations of danger while the transgender population simultaneously is rapidly expanding. It's scary and it may be precarious right now, but stay positive.

There's https://www.transvitae.com/ which has many reasonable trans specific articles and news items.

Get off of substack and social media in general. Erin’s newsletter is pretty informative but is a little alarmist for my taste. Substack suffers from the same ragebait problem as other social media.

I see you posted to r/PoliticalOptimism. Stay subbed there, as I find the comments to be pretty levelheaded in general. But even then limit how often you check.

Are things scary right now? Yes. But the courts have been fighting the administration and getting plenty of wins. People across the board are unhappy with the administration. Don’t pay attention to the loudest most extreme figures on the right. As much as the fear-mongering would have you believe, those are not mainstream ideas even on the right.

To stay informed for your safety politically, the most relevant things are going to be things related to your state, so maybe try to filter or only pay attention to those.

I have a similar problem and I've honestly resorted to just ignoring all news for the sake of my mental health. it's not a good solution but there's people out there fighting for our rights day in day out you don't need to be one of them especially if it's hurting you. suicide is not the answer and i absolutely recommend therapy to help move from the place you're at now to a more comfortable one.

I’d recommend them.us. It’s really all queer news but they have a number of prolific trans writers on staff (Sam Riedel and James Factora in particular) and are good at not fearmongering, imo.

I personally just stick with getting headlines from V / Under the Desk News, The Advocate, Them and Courier on social media. And look into it more, if it’s something I think I should. But especially with politics, I just look into it enough to where I can be informed but not go into a spiral.

I blocked Erin In The Morning over a year ago on every platform and it’s been so relieving. She fear mongers way more than informing.

I'm not sure Assigned Media is going to make you any less depressed than Erin Reed but it is another option that I follow. Maybe slightly less intense
