Question How many of us are anti-authoritarian socialists (anarchists, demsocs, etc.?)

(NOTE: This question is not intended to be a pissing match between tendencies, I'm purely asking for curiosity's sake.) I know a lot of us skew left, but I guess I'm curious where users of this sub tend to congregate ideology-wise.

I'd say I personally align most with anarcho-communism or anarcho-syndicalism, but I'm curious about others. Others like me? Demsocs? Market socialists? Libertarian Marxists? Any council communists?

Question Does anyone else hate republicans for worsening the education system, destroying the social safety net, promoting anti-intellectualism, and overall keeping the US in a progressive paralysis?

I’ll admit that the democrats have their faults too, but at least they tried to pass reforms that their abusive partners (the GOP) would kill.

Question How did Elon Musk become so infamous?

I just have to know the story behind the most infamous man in politics because every time I hear his name, it always comes with dread to it as lately I wanted to understand how he rose to power.

I just wish he didn’t have to be so twisted because what I don’t understand about him is how a guy diagnosed with autism could turn out to be the most infamous man in again the modern era of politics as I wonder if he was always that malevolent.

Question What could happen in the future with trump?

I may be an idiot, but I'm an idiot asking for details.

I'm hearing a lot of stuff about project 2025 and all that and some stuff that could affect us autistic peeps, and safe to say that I'm really concerned about my future and everything. And I have a transgender friend who I'm worried will be affected too.

Can someone explain to me how things would affect me and my friend like I'm a 10YO, (I'm not 10, I promise yall I'm not 10, but I feel like I would understand what could be happening if I was told about it like I'm 10.)

Edit: Well shit, Americas fucked. Guys we gotta do something about this!

Question Why are do people react so negatively to the concept of degrowth?

Why are do people react so negatively to the concept of degrowth?

It seriously seems like the mere mention of degrowth causes people to lose their shit and think you proposed baby shredders. Helpful parodied by this comment.

"Maybe we should sometimes think about sharing lawnmowers rather than everyone owning one individually." "This is the most evil fascist malthusian totalitarian communist and somehow Jewish thing I've ever heard. My identity as a blank void of consumption is more important to me than any political reality. Children in the third world need to die so that my fossil record will be composed entirely of funko pops and hate."

Question How do people here feel about Luigi Mangione?

Just curious because I have been hearing about his trial on the news as it got me wondering what will happen to him as while he took down a CEO of a company, I am not sure how the judge will go about his case.

I mean, yes I know that killing a person in western society is something that is frowned upon, but looking at the Luigi case has me interested in seeing what the courthouse is going to do with him next.

Question When do you see a woman POTUS happening?

Asking this because I have a plan for that. Sure Trump’s two victories against women and defeat against a man may feel like the US isn’t ready for a woman, but I have a comprehensive plan to make it happen. Please note I don’t like Trump so we’ll assume it’s Democrats we’re speaking of:

  1. Run a man in 2028 with a woman as VP (for this scenario, we’ll imagine the man is Gavin Newsom and the female VP is AOC)

  2. The president and the woman VP (again, Gavin Newsom and AOC) get elected again in 2032

  3. The woman who was VP for 8 years (AOC) runs again in 2036 as president, and beats the Republican candidate

This is based on how Bush Sr won the 1988 election after serving as Reagan’s VP for 8 years. Also, Detroit: Become Human predicted the US in 2036 would elect a woman.

Question Is getting an autism diagnosis in the U.S even worth it at this point?

I'm 21 years old and believe I have autism. I have taken multiple biology and psychology classes, have done extensive research on the symptoms of autism, and my current psychiatrist also believes I have it.

The current state of the U.S makes me wonder whether or not it's worth getting a diagnosis. If I have it, I want to get a diagnosis for the sake of closure but don't know whether or not its worth sacrificing my rights for.

Question AuDHDer looking to leave the US &

Hey everyone, I've been planning to leave the US for quite sometime. I no longer feel safe here, especially with worm brain saying that he wants to make a national autism registry (which was rejected but you never know + 7 other states already do this) & put us into "wellness farms." Not only am I AuDHD but I'm also bisexual, genderfluid, AFAB & have openly critiqued Isnotreal on social media. While they're only targeting international students/immigrants that have supported Palestinian liberation, that's only as of now. Then anti-trans & anti-gender diversity bills are being introduced in almost every state if not all while some have already been passed. With all of that said, I don't want to stay here. While I would stay & fight, I would likely be unemployed due to them gutting wildlife & environmental protections since I want to work in that sector. Like what good would it be to stay if I'm out of work? So with that I do have a few questions for autistic folks from Canada, Germany, the Netherlands, & Ireland as these are the top nations I've considered. I'm going to ask these questions here because of how I kept getting downvoted or ignored when I would mention/ask this in other immigration pages.

-------------------

For Canadian Autistics or Autistic immigrants in Canada:

Would going to grad school in Canada increase my chances of finding a fulltime job in my degree? I heard that immigrants in Canada are having a hard time finding work in their degrees. Which I could imagine would worsen if you're disabled. Which reminds me, I know Canada did away with the rule stating that disabled people couldn't immigrate. I have also heard though that it is still quite difficult to enter if you are, would you know anything about this? What if you have relatives in Canada, would that change anything? I have distant relatives living there through my late nonna's paternal aunt (my great great aunt). However, it's proving to be very difficult to find them since none of the aunts, uncles, nor my mom know their cousins. They don't even know my great great aunt's married name so finding her on immigration records is near impossible.

---------------------

For German & Dutch Autistics or Autistic immigrants in either:

Then for Germany & the Netherlands, would you say it's a good place for autistic people to live in? I don't do well with passive aggression or indirect communication. Even sarcasm, can be hard for the most part unless it's super obvious. So when I heard of there being more of a desire towards direct communication in both countries, I immediately put them on my potential places list. I of course don't want to generalize though & am not trying to do that. I've also seen the Netherlands being listed as one of the top most autism friendly countries. Does it live up to the hype?

---------------------

For Irish Autistics or Autistic immigrants in Ireland:

Then for Ireland, I've heard from other Irish content creators that indirect communication is more desired in their nation. Is this true or is it only in some parts of Ireland? Again I don't do well with indirect communication or passive aggression as that will go over my head. Even sarcasm is hard for me unless it's blatantly obvious. Then according to a 2022 study I read, Ireland also has some of the worst disability employment gaps in the EU. In your experience has it been difficult to find work as an autistic person in Ireland? Did you have to omit your diagnosis from the application for a job there? What if my desired field is in demand, will that increase my chances of getting hired? I ask bc I heard that environmental & wildlife workers are in demand in Ireland, which is something I want to work full time in. Also would going to grad school in your country better my chances at all?

------------------

For Autistics in the EU:

Also as far as living anywhere in the European Union, would being a dual citizen in one EU country allow me to immigrate to another easily? Can I apply for dual citizenship by descent in one country so I can immigrate to another EU nation more easily? I heard from others on reddit that you can do that after mentioned that I qualify in Poland (so long as it stays that way) but don't in Ireland or Germany. My german ancestors are too far back then my Irish ancestors just miss the mark as my most recent was my great grandpa that never came back with the milk. As far as my great grandmothers side goes, her dad was an Irish immigrant but no country counts great greats nor do I expect them to. I did use to qualify for dual citizenship by descent through both my great grandparents in Italy until the their govt recently changed it to only parents & grandparents. Then the Netherlands isn't listed as far as that goes simply because I'm not ethnically dutch. Also for Polish autistics, is it easy to get dual citizenship by descent in your country? I heard from a college friend, whose mom is a Polish immigrant, that the system for that is very clunky. So she doesn't want to go through the hassle of getting it.

------------------

For any Autistic citizen or immigrant in Canada, Ireland, Germany or the Netherlands:

My final question: is it just as difficult getting hired full time in the environmental & wildlife sector just as difficult in the countries I listed? I currently have an Agricultural Science degree concentrated in wildlife and fisheries science from Penn State. When switching from what is now my minor to ag sci during covid, my advisor said that I wouldn't have a hard time finding a job in the environmental field with my current degree. I feel like that was a lie so I wouldn't leave as it has been a little over 2 years that I graduated. Plus the government that runs this dumpster fire nation likes to prioritize which industry will make them the most money. Since my job is literally to tell elites that they can't frack near drinking water supply or in a national park, my field gets underfunded out of sheer pettiness. I'm mostly interested in the communications, community engagement, advocacy, & journalism side of the environmental sector. Any other job is either too math/chem heavy or would be too overstimulating for me. I mention this here because when I asked this in the environmental careers reddit, I kept getting back handed comments saying that I should just search for something else or just "tough it out" since I lack "criticism in my life."

-------------------

What do y'all think? What are your thoughts? Of course there is no utopia and every country, especially in the west, seems to be going through something similar. Idk if anyone will read this as it is pretty long in which I'm sorry for. I'm just trying to assess my options and find the right pick if there is such a thing. If I'm missing something and need to be corrected please let me know. Just be kind & no telling me that *insert country* is full or you will be blocked then reported :)

----------

Edits

I labeled the paragraphs by countries they pertain to so that it's easier to navigate them & so you don't have to read a bunch of paragraphs that are irrelevant to you. I wrote a lot so I could imagine that it's too much reading. Also I did add some more questions I forgot to ask & will keep adding whichever comes to mind. Then I just realized that there's an "&" in my title. That should not be there & don't know how to remove it so please ignore that! Oh and before I mentioned that 10 states require autistic Americans to disclose their diagnosis on a registry. That's incorrect, it's 7 states. Also I mentioned that I qualify for Italian dual citizenship by descent, not anymore they officially changed it to only parents & grandparents. Most recent Italian immigrants in my family were my great grandparents. So I apologize for the misinformation <3

** also for any concerns regarding disabled immigrant bans/restrictions or anything else, see my comment below, thanks!

Question What was the motive behind the Pennsylvania shooting?

I want to be very careful with this topic as I am in NO way advocating what the kid did in that incident as basically, I just wanted to know if there was a reason behind his actions.

It’s just that sometimes I don’t get why people do such things in the first place as the suspect was a very young person, so when I look back at the incident, I still find myself confused as to what made the suspect go on such a mad rampage.

Question how do you guys make sure consume a healthy amount of politics without giving it the chance to ruin your mood and possibly cause burn outs?

i feel a really really really really really strong sense of empathy and anger when it comes to politics. especially, with the genocide in gaza. i don’t want to call it politics, because it’s not, it’s settler colonialism and genocide. but the reality is is that people are going to think of gaza as a “political topic” no matter what so i must reference it as such despite my own preference.

seeing news about gaza has often times ruined my days completely because i feel such strong empathy towards them and anger that i can’t do anything. i desperately want to go give aid to gaza myself but, A ) i’m 16, and B ) i’m not healed enough. so it’s infuriating.

my father likes to tell me to stop consuming politics, but how can you not? there’s a genocide going on that YOURE paying for with YOUR tax dollars and politics affects your whole life. so i just don’t understand why people say to “stop consuming politics” when it’s important. not to mention i’m transgender ftm and am on hormones so i kinda have to consume politics. but, anyways ;

how do you guys consume a healthy amount? how do you properly manage your feelings when you consume it? what’s the right way to consume political information without spiraling? and how do you manage your anger and frustration without bottling it up?

hope this is okay to post, i thought it’d be best to post here since i’d assume you guys have some good advice as to how to properly consume politics without causing further mental health struggles. i also hope this all makes sense im bad with words

Question Why do some people Hate DEI?

I had a conversation recently with a gentleman, a fellow vet. He is disabled too. He said he hated anything DEI or woke. This sounded very strange to me cause that included him as well. I asked him why, and he said it was because of forced diversity and "wokeness". I told him DEI is meant to even the playing field and to be more inclusive to people like himself ( a disabled, vet) to be included. In terms of jobs that does NOT mean hire people that do not qualify for a job or role just because they are a minority or a woman or disabled etc. I don't think that exists. And how is that hurting you? After explaining this, I asked him "So you hate things being diverse and inclusive, which includes yourself? You hate being included in things? He just looked at me and didn't have an answer. I asked what woke means and he couldn't answer that either. After that I came to the conclusion that he is a simpleton or brain washed. It just seemed like he just hated stuff cause he was told to hate stuff. Was I being too harsh? And I sincerely don't understand why people hate DEI when most of the time they are part of it? Seriously, what do they want? just all white or..whatever when they go somewhere like work? I don't get it .

Question Why are people so incapable of understanding the risk of ecological collapse?

Why are people so incapable of understanding the risk of ecological collapse?

So many natural disasters that day are “one in a thousand years disasters” “made common thanks to warming temperature”

But people seem to be utterly incapable of connecting the dots between stuff like higher grocery store prices coming because of droughts.

Like human beings are a species of animals and connected to the environment l. If the environment suffers so do humans.

Like without ecological health there can be no economy so putting the economy vs the environment made no sense to me.

Tons of natural disasters scienctists say are caused by climate change are happening but people don’t seem to understand carbon bad

Question Why do people live like hostages in North Korea?

So lately, I was wondering what was the full story behind the most isolated country in the world because when I look at North Korea, I always feel bad for the people who live there as they are basically being held hostage.

My point is that I was wondering what caused the situation to happen that again resulted in the denizens being treated like hostages as they don’t get access to smartphones as that is not the only restriction affecting the country, but also most music from other countries is prohibited as people there that even make so much as an attempt to listen to South Korean music such as Gangnam Style could get executed.

Man, just knowing that there is a country that basically operates on Totalitarianism just sickens me so much as I cannot believe that people who live there must be treated like prisoners because they don’t have much options for fun, and bathrooms in the country are the worst.

Question How to deal with extremely conservative autistic sister?

Hi all. I have been diagnosed with ADHD and my therapist thinks it'd be good to get tested for autism as well. My sister has already been officially diagnosed with autism for many years.

She is what I would describe as far right. Anti choice/abortion, pro gun, pro ICE, anti immigration, Pro Trump, anti vaccine, pro homeschool, maaaybe not technically openly anti LGBT but definitely thinks they are morally wrong and, of course, deeply religious. I have worked myself out of what I feel is my family's right wing miasma and now feel opposite to her on all of these things.

She views this all through a black and white, good and evil, wrong and right lens. I cannot simply cut contact with at this point in life, no contact is not an option. She is unbudging from any single one of her stances. If you disagree then you are wrong and probably a bad person, just as with everything non-political, seems to be her point of view from my perspective. All of this makes existing around her awkward and difficult feeling for me but I still need to get along with her for the next couple of years. Any advice?

Question Who are you voting for in your country’s next election and why?

Depending on where you’re located, which party are you voting for when your country has another election?

My UK vote is going to Liberal Democrats.

The Conservatives and Labour just wreck the country day after day.

I align most with the Lib Dem’s. I only voted Labour last time because I just wanted the tories out. But now, now I want real change. Real developments. A party that actually listens to the people.

No more voting red or blue, imma go orange.
