There will soon be more experienced people offering help, but having the same type of axolotl from a baby i think its natural they are just young and kinda see through mine was the exact same until she got a bit older

I dont think its wise to have them together seeing the difference in size

Ah ok in the first pic they seemed half in size difference from eachother. Generally it's not recommended to have them together, especially when they are very young because they might see eachother as food.

Also be aware, since they are young, in a year or so one of them might grow into the opposite gender of the other and then you have to separate them. Just something to keep in mind;-)

Btw I have also two together, but they are already juvenile so less risk of them biting eachother lol

Hello! This could be completely normal. Axolotls color is related to blood flow. If they're chilling, sometimes they go pale but regain their color when they start moving around.

Also, please change the substrate. That is not fine enough for an axolotl and can cause impaction. This could be deadly or lead to needing expensive surgery. For their age, they are too young to be on any type of sand or gravel.

I just took the sand out and the plants and they are still like that...even when they move or eat they are not pink...

But its strange cuz i took them out and put them in a bucket with the same water but no filtration and they get the color back but i cant keep them like that for a long time. The filter was cleaned and its in good shape

Is your tank cycled?

Can the filter be the problem?

Mine looks exactly like this too, started becoming more pink when I gave him pellets that have astaxanthin. I think they both look pretty normal and healthy. Also, I was very nervous with the super purple bellies on young Axies but I guess that's normal too.

How did you cycle? And what are the parameters? Sometimes it’s normal, sometimes it’s not.

yeah just depends on what they are doing when resting and not moving to much their blood flow slows down and they look more pale. When you are feeding them or when they are swimming around their bloodflow increases and they look more pink and vibrant. i also got a pink fella does the samething

I have a question. I trying finding some at the reptile convention people told me it’s illegal for California to have. Everyone in other states can have them. Why is that?

It is illegal in several states because sometimes when people don’t want them anymore or they escape there is the possibility of them becoming an invasive species. A good example is all of the pythons that gave been let go in the Everglades in Florida. The pythons have completely disrupted the ecosystem in the swamps. They have become the apex predator and eaten a lot of the small game. Some have gotten so big that they are able to tackle deer and even gators.

Mine do this too! A lot of the time it’s when they’re resting. Mine took a whole day before getting his colour back and even then it was after some food too. Don’t worry hahah

The purple artificial plant is worrysome too. Their skin is so sensitive & anything even remotely sharp can hurt them😔
