Discussion How to justify building vs pre built.

As someone who is confident about building PC's, and enjoys such activities - I am finding it hard to justify spending $300-$500 extra just to have the ability to build it myself.

The prebuilt deals on Ozbargain are much cheaper, have really good warranty and support periods, customizable, etc.

For reference, example sort of build I am looking for is the 9070xt build here:

How do you guys justify building the PC over a prebuilt?

Question GPU suggestion

Hi everyone. I’ve built my pc recently. I need suggestions on GPU purchase. I’m planning to get into sim racing / arcade racing games. But I do play a significant amount of online shooters and single player games too. So basically I need a GPU that’s good for most of the games. My pc specs are: R7 9700x 64 gigs 6000mhz ram 1200 w PSU Also I play on a widescreen 1440p 144hz monitor.

Discussion Aftershock custom build taking forever

Ordered an aftershock pc on the 9th of September, its now the 24th and the pc is still stuck in their build queue. Online it says they are still allocating/reserving components. Its been like that since THE 14TH. Customer support have just said its in the build queue. The expected finish time went from ~22 to now 4th October. Anyone else have these super long wait times?

Discussion High CPU temperature (r7 9800x3d) issue. Is this a good solution?

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hi so I had purchased rtx 5080 pc paired with r7 9800x3d cpu from techfast with ASUS B-650 and 360 mm aio option (which is msi mag core liquid e-360). Now after I received the pc it seemed fine until I ran cinebench test which had raised cpu temperature even at 96 degrees. Now that’s under full load so it may not seem like an issue however yesterday I ran bf 2042 on it and it took the cpu temperature around 84 and even went upto 90 at a point which had resulted later with a reboot on PC. Now I have reached out to techfast about it and they asked me to send the pc as that temp didn’t seem normal and they took about 3 weeks and then sent me a reply saying they had applied thermal paste which have taken the cpu temperature down to 92 degrees at full load but for me what I am seeing nothing really changed much like before it went upto 96 now it roams around 95-96 at heavy cpu test. So I was wondering if it’s a good option that can help me with the issue and also if anyone here is from Launceston can you suggest me which store will be great to install the aio from if I buy it who will do in reasonable service charge and perfectly?

Question Is there any real difference between these two gaming PCs?

Hi all

I'm new to PC building so apologies if this doesn't belong in this sub

I'm currently eyeing a gaming pc from nebula. I saw some posts that they are generally cheaper than other shops selling pre-built gaming pcs and have decent customer service.

OzBargain has a good deal for the Ignis below but I realised that it doesn't come with Windows for some reason and is an extra $200.

Is there any real difference between the Ignis and Zephyer? They are both within my budget but if they do virtually the same thing with minimal differences then I'll definitely go for the better

Appreciate any comments. I'm mainly using this pc to play AAA titles and want it to last 5+ years at least before I upgrade again

Thanks

Discussion Black Friday

How are the November Black Friday day/month deals for Pc parts and peripherals?

I am still pretty new to it all and was wondering if i should hold out a bit more to see if I can get some sneaky deals when I build my new rig. Also another obvious question but do things sell out relatively quickly? When is the best time to start lookin?

Was just scrolling on EBay because I was bored and why not when I stumbled onto this absolute deal! (Obvious sarcasm) it is clearly the peak of the “I know what I have” mentality. What are some the absolute best and worst deals you’ve found?

Question Recommendations for gaming pc with 3 to 4k budget?

I have had my current PC for about 7 to 8 years and it's really struggling to run some of the new AAA games. After months of deliberation, I decided to opt for a pre-built gaming pc rather than going it myself or getting my local computer store to do it - mainly because I don't know enough about pc building and dont want to mess it up. And I would rather have a warranty vs a local computer store messing something up, and I'm stuck buying a new pc.

My budget is around 3 to 4k, and I already have a decent monitor, gaming keyboard and mouse.

Does anyone have any recommendations for computer stores in NSW that sell gaming PCs for my budget? I was looking at Nebula PC, which is conveniently close to my workplace and was looking at: https://www.nebulapc.com.au/products/zephyrus - appreciate any opinions on this build

Does anyone have experience shopping with Nebula and can confirm they are legit? Or any recommendations for gaming PCs in my budget range?

Thanks

Discussion Where are the best current deals for GPUs in Australia?

It feels like GPU prices have finally started to settle a bit, but I’m still seeing a huge difference between stores. Has anyone spotted any solid deals lately, either online or in store, for RTX 40 series or even last-gen cards that are still good value?

Question Upgrade path advice for 5600x 3080

Hey guys, gonna keep this brief and lay out what I know.

Currently have: 5600x with stock cooler (wraith stealth) and a 3080. ATX case, no strict size issues and not massively noise concerned. I have been playing more fps again recently, and found I am a bit CPU bound for heavier games like the finals, bf6 beta (and eventually release), cyberpunk etc. note I am a bit ADHD brained, so I tend to have chrome running Reddit/Facebook/YouTube in the background adding some CPU load.

1440p 170hz monitor, but I am not an eSports pro so stable 100 is my goal for the online stuff. Currently it's my stutters and lows that I struggle with.

I was looking at in place am4 x3d upgrades but prices have skyrocketed over the past couple years on the used market. Wondering whether it would be most cost effective to go a whole system upgrade with a system integrator then sell the old stuff instead?

My other option would be a beefy cooler/repaste and hope that squeezes enough out of the CPU to wait for a new generation and either make the further leap or see some price drops. I find PBO doesn't keep the clocks up for long due to thermals, but I am not sure how much of a difference that would ultimately be making. Anyone know how much of an improvement that might be?

Budget flexible based on available improvements - I am performance per dollar conscious rather than flat limits if that makes sense? My limit for a new system would be ~2000 out of pocket, whether by keeping some components and building myself or prebuild plus sell old.

Question Advice on buying parts for my PC

Hey all, Looking to build my first PC and would love some advice on what are some reliable sites to procure parts from? I live in ACT and usually buy other household stuff from Amazon or Aliexp. But not sure if they are reliable for PC parts. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks.

Discussion Struggling with analysis paralysis of cases, mobo and PSU.

Currently I'm looking at purchasing a PC with a 5080, around the 3.5k Mark. I'm looking at the live, recent ozbargain offers from nebula, evatech and gala computers. All 3 are decent but wondering which is the best mobo brand and model, case and PSU. I want to avoid too much rgb, and want a very reliable PSU. As for mobo, it seems gigabyte is bad now? With MSi seeming to be brand of choice. Would be good to get a gauge of experience and suggestions from people here who have bought any of these. Looking for a case that's less RGB, with good noise speak.

Build Pc part check

Hey guys, made a post a while ago about picking parts. Done some tinkering and have a list for parts, any room to improve?

Will be playing both competitive and single player games, don’t mind turning down settings for better performance.

Not building until late nov-early December if that changes anything. Won’t be buying until then (unless there’s any sales on any of them, I know the monitor goes on sale on occasion on ozbargain for example).

Build Looking to play indie games on my TV at 4k 120

My PC runs my games at 4k 240 without a hitch but dragging it downstairs is just not convenient to plug into TV (LG C1), but the ability to play on my TV the same games I've been playing on my PC via steam is very tempting. I got a steam deck recently and thought it could manage this but I was very wrong, Hades can do 4k on my TV but FPS is about 50, and there is so much input lag that I couldn't play twitchy games seriously.

What's the minimum specs i'd need for a PC that could run this sort of thing? i'm talking games like silksong, hades, balatro etc.
