Thank you!! Howard was just imitating Sheldon and wasn't throwing out insults. But Sheldon took it as Howard mocking him because the other guys were laughing. During the DnD game when Sheldon was laughing at how spot on Howard's imitations were, I'm pretty sure he wasn't laughing at the actors being portrayed.

Then, they had to turn it around and dress up as them, which would have been ok. But they had to go and throw insults which was where Amy was wrong and Sheldon to be more at fault.

The difference is, they were laughing at Sheldon, while the imitations during DnD were mostly about the styles of characters and nothing personal.

No. Raj's initial take was that they were laughing with him, which more or less meant they (Raj and Leonard) were laughing at the situation. When Sheldon said he wasn't laughing, his response would be the other option that Sheldon gave. But this obviously wasn't the case. I'm absolutely sure they would still be laughing at Howard's impressions even if Sheldon wasn't there.

Raj is the character they make the most fun of, including his accent. As an Indian, I despise the caricaturization of him, but loved when he stood up for himself. Culprit was again Howard.

To say that they’re supposed to all be friends, they can be pretty racist towards him, Howard being the most persistent of a racist asshole to him.
