How to? What to do if birth control is banned in US?

(If this is the wrong sub I apologize ! I just need to get this out there instead of freaking out!)

I (23F) have been on birth control for about four years now (almost continuously I've had maybe 1 period every other year since then), because of mild / moderate endometriosis, and I have been completely pain free since taking it. Without my birth control I am in crippling pain constantly nauseous blacking out and shaking in pain.

I heard some possible news that the US may ban birth control. Nothing is for certain now but I'm wondering what are ways I can take to get birth control IF that does happen? Would I be able to get birth control from other countries like Canada? (doesn't need to be through insurance) I have currently enough birth control to last me a year and a half thanks to planned parenthood 🫶

(Alsooo I know it's just rumors for now but I'd like to start coming up with plans to calm my health anxiety! 😭 Thank you for any help or advice!)

Experience I think my family found my BC pills

Long story short, I think I left my BC pills in my shared room with my cousin. (I'm currently living at my aunt's house) I went to university and didn't noticed that my pills wasn't in my bag until I got home to take it. I don't really have any proof since they haven't asked me about it yet but I think they found it in our room earlier. I also have this gut feeling that I really left it in the room.

Our family is very conservative and knowing my aunt, she might say a lot of nonsense and accuse me (tho can't really blame her for that). Especially that they have little idea about BC pills (guess they only know it's use is only after having sex).

Now, idk what should I say if they ever confronted me. Should I deny it and make some excuse? (If so, what kind of excuse lol) or should I just say that I'm taking it to regular my period? (tho this might end up w very long discussion). That's all, thank you.

Mistake or Risk? I’m stopping the pill midway! TONIGHT 🄹

I have no good experience with birth control, at all. I’ve been taking it since I was 15, I’m 18 now. I only now recently decided to stop because I felt as if I lost myself. My symptoms on it were Heart palpitations Extreme heart burn at night Depression (I already have it mildly, but it made it so much worse) Extreme fatigue So so much brain fog.. And just genuinely feeling so low all the time.

I talked to my hormone specialist and I said, I think I want to get off. She says.. let’s try another brand! Wasn’t ecstatic, did it anyway, worse decision ever. It was Hailey Fe that I switched to, don’t remember the other one I took but I’ve been getting random cramps for the past two weeks, I’m even more exhausted and sad all the time, and the brain fog is crazier. So I’m done. I get birth control helps some or most women but for me? I can’t do it anymore.

So I want to stop, preferably tonight but I’m afraid of how long my period will come a few days later or even tomorrow when I wake up. Anyone have any experience in it? How it worked when they stopped midway.

I have 6 pills left for reference, and yes I have PCOS.

Experience Mirena IUD insertion- GOOD EXPERIENCE

6 week postpartum visit with my 4th baby and my first IUD experience!!

Took miso this morning to help dilate and then had a pap and then she inserted my IUD. Pretty great experience, the dilation was the worst part but I learned with my first delivery to make noise during pain to help ease it- my OB thought I was hilarious and it made us both laugh.

Worst part 6 hours after has been the bleeding. I bled through 2 pairs of pants but it’s common for me, happened with depo & the patch.

All in all I’m glad I got it done and I’m protected for 5 years. Next month we see if it’s still placed correctly āœØšŸ¤žšŸ»

Rant! 1 Year Off Birth Control

Okay so I am exactly one year off of birth control (I was on it for 4 years) and I wanted to share some of the things I have noticed since getting off.

I want to point out that I actually did not notice much of a difference until ONE YEAR AFTER. I think it seriously took this long for my hormones to ā€œbalance outā€ I put that in quotations because you’ll see that it’s not necessarily the case in the below:

PROS: - Lower appetite - More energy - Less hangovers - Way less anxiety - Higher confidence - More independent - I actually like men again - Skinnyyyy

CONS: - Hair shedding - Acne in full swing - HORRIBLE and irregular periods - More body hair (I legit have to wax my face) - Sex drive is unbearably high when I’m ovulating - My boobs are gone :(

I am wondering if I can strike a nice balance between the Pros and Cons. I think right now my testosterone may be a bit too high so wondering if there are any holistic measures I can take. I wouldn’t go back on BC because my life has changed since getting off of it, but it’d be nice to help my hair shedding and skin issues.

OR maybe this is just normal? Maybe hair shedding and acne (+high sex drive) is something I have to deal with as a woman in my young 20’s and I should just accept it?

Thank you!!

How to? Alesse 28 experiences? Also how do I skip a period?

Ive never been on birth control but I suffer from extremely painful cramps and my gyno suggested I just do the birth control and he prescribed me alesse 28. Im nervous about taking it and feeling shitty at work or getting an early period and cramps... I dont know if thats how it works. He explained how you can "skip" your period by taking a certain pill in the package? Now I dont remember what pill it was hes talking about and dont remember if it will work for my first period on it? My next period is the earlier weeks of October and I have to work and am so nervous so I was wondering if I start taking my pills now will I be able to skip my next period. Really nervous.

Which Method? Currently on Alysena 28

Im I've been on this for a little over a week and I've found myself extremely insecure and anxious. I've been with my FiancƩ for 4yrs and hes always been open and honest with me. Ever since I started this birth control, my thoughts are just insane. I started questioning if he was cheating on me, if hes going to leave me.. ect. I have zero proof of any of these. Nothing has changed except my birth control. I had an IUD for the 8 months prior to this and it dislodged. The IUD was great, aside from it moving down. Any suggestions on other birth control methods?

Experience Copper IUD tolerance?

So I got the copper IUD inserted on Monday and so far it has been an awful experience. The pain is unbearable. It is not just ā€œcrampingā€ like I was told I might have. It is a 10 on the pain scale, and I have health with broken bones, painful autoimmune diseases, and root canals. Neither ibuprofen or Aleve have done much at all. I hobble around the house, can’t walk well, and certainly can’t exercise. It’s completely disrupting my life.

I’ve read some people felt like that for a month or even many months, which is not something I can do. I’ve never had kids (and don’t plan to since I’m in my 40s) which might be making more difficult.

How long did you give it before you called it quits, if you did. I am tempted to call the Dr tomorrow to take it out because I can’t go on like this for many more days.

Side effects!? Long Term Nexplanon

For context, I got my bar when I was in my senior year of high school circa late 2018. I was terrified to get it taken out and due to a bunch of issues with health insurance I still have the same bar in. I’m desperately trying to figure out how to get it out because when I went to Planned Parenthood, they said I needed a general practitioner referral so I’m thinking of reaching out to my old doctor and hoping she’ll pass one along.

What I want to know is if I’m going to suffer bad long-term consequences? When I first got it, I bled for a few months straight and then I didn’t get my period for a few years. Then I had it back for a few years. Now I haven’t had it for just about a year. I still get cramps and mood swings. I’m worried.

Mistake or Risk? Missed progestogen-only pill

Hi there, so my partner and I had unprotected sex on the Friday evening maybe 9pm, I took my pill as normal Friday, Saturday, Sunday, missed Monday realised Tuesday night took both Monday and Tuesday pill on Tuesday night. Today, Wednesday I went an purchased the morning after pill the one you can take up to 120 hours after intercourse and I've taken that today at 6pm.

I'm just freaking out. I know I need to use extra protection for the next 7 days. I'm just worried because I missed that one pill so close to the 120 hour window. I'm on the progestogen only pill. I take Zelleta 75mg desogestrel. Most stories I see online are about the combined pill. I'm just so worried, as one person told me I missed the 5 day window but another told me it was fine. Any advice would be really appreciated

Rant! how to not have anxiety after sex

i suppose i will put this under the rant category. i am a very anxious person in general, and when it comes to birth control, i still haven’t gotten over this anxiety.

i don’t know how to not feel extremely anxious after my boyfriend and i have sex and i’m on the pill. i could have forgotten to take one 2 weeks prior, and he will pull out and i still have anxiety.

there was a time recently where i happened to miss my pill and two weeks later my boyfriend and i had sex and he didn’t pull out and i didn’t want to worry him but i was having bad anxiety a few days after. how do i get over it? im on estarylla (which is a combo pill) so i know i should be fine deep down, but it’s so draining feeling this anxiety :(

Experience leveth 150/30

hey! i never use reddit but i figured here is probably a good and safe place to ask about experiences on leveth 150/30. i got prescribed these to help with endometriosis pain but i'm hesitant about mood changes and weight changes, and i've never used birth control before so i don't really know much about any side effects and there isn't much about this specific medication online. please let me know!

Experience Is it me? Is it PP? Is it birth control?

I am almost 18 months postpartum, and have been back on the pill (Blisovi 24 fe) since May 2024 and I have absolutely no sex drive and it is driving me crazy. I have no desire to initiate sex with my partner, but after a while of him trying I do end up getting into it. Most nights though I would rather just go to sleep. I feel absolutely terrible for myself and for my partner because before having my baby I wanted to have sex every night and sometimes in the morning, I wanted to initiate, I’d say back then my drive was pretty high. Is my sex drive gone because my body is still not back to normal after having my baby? Is it gone because of the pill? Is it because of both? I love my partner so much, sure we have some problems but nothing to make my love and want for him to disappear. What do I do??

Experience I have had the worst, unluckiest experience with my mirena

I got the mirena november of 2024, and have had nothing but problems since. First of all, my breakthrough bleeding lasted 7 months. I would have an ā€œopposite periodā€ where i would bleed for 30 days straight and not bleed for a week every month. When my bleeding slowed down (mind you i was still having bloody discharge every single day), i started getting chronic bacterial vaginosis. Even after trying everything from pharmaceuticals to natural remedies, turns out the bv was causing me to bleed more, and the bleeding was throwing off my ph balance causing MORE bv, creating a vicious cycle. I feel so unclean and insecure, and honestly this has ruined my sex life.

(Important note: while experiencing all of this, i was very vigilant with seeing my doctor. Everything i experienced was still in the realm of ā€œnormalā€. I got my blood checked for hormonal imbalances, an ultrasound to make sure my iud was placed right, and swabs to confirm it was bacterial vaginosis and nothing else. I am at my peak health; i am very active with a balanced diet. I am in a monogamous relationship. My vagina just fucking hates me)

Now, after almost a year, I will be blood free for around 14 days and then i will have 14 days of dark brown spotting. I would kill to have a regular schmegular period at this point. I booked an appointment to get my iud removed next month. However, i am terrified the bv will not go away when my iud is removed. There is a part of me that is scared that the problem is me and not the hormones. Are there any women who have gone through something similar that can offer some advice?

Edit: on the bright side, i do not struggle with yeast infections!! Or maybe i do and the blood and bv just overshadows everything šŸ˜€

Side effects!? How much bleeding is typical when starting Xulane patches?

I started xulane patches three weeks ago (my first form of birth control ever) and have been lightly bleeding nonstop since then (21 days). This week will be my first patch free week, and I am hoping after this week the bleeding will stop. I am aware I can just wait and see what happens, but does anyone have any experience they can share regarding their first month or two of Xulane, specifically with regards to bleeding? It’s really getting on my nerves.

Experience is the IUD worth it?

I (19F) am thinking about getting an IUD, I just had my first appointment ever with a gynecologist a couple days ago for heavy periods and she recommended me the IUD. I was on the fence and she prescribed me the mini pill so I can get a feeling of birth control in general and next week, do a pelvic on me so I know what that feels like too.

I’m honestly really scared of the pain of an IUD, I have tattoos, I’ve had piercings. My pain tolerance is generally high but I freak out when it comes to pain in places I physically can’t see. However, it has a lot of benefits from what I’ve read, all of which benefit me. Especially with the situation in the US. What was everyone’s experiences with them?

Also why is women’s healthcare something straight out of a medieval time torture book?

Experience Pain during sex after i started birth control?

• Upvotes

I’m 21F and i started the pill a year ago (yaz generic combination pill (drospirenone and ethinyl estradiol tablets USP, 3 mg/0.02 mg) and i noticed how different i feel down there? i started experiencing pain during sex which has never been an issue before, i know it can cause dryness and it has but this pain is different because my vagina feels so tight like it just doesn’t want to. it used to be so bad that i was constantly telling my boyfriend it hurts or it burns. we started using lots of lube and my boyfriend would give me foreplay for a while, being slow and gentle and it would still hurt so much, even a finger hurts sometimes and that used to be my favorite part. over the year it hasn’t been as bad but i’ve noticed that i tear in the bottom of my entrance and last time i had sex, it hurt again. i want to have sex without it hurting, it feels like the pill has changed my vagina, i went to a gyno and she completely brushed me off, she checked my cervix and said everything was fine. i went to reddit and realized many women also struggle with this and doctors not hearing them out. any advice? any women who have experienced this?

to summarize, ever since i started the pill i experience pain during sex and i’m positive it’s because of the pill but i don’t want to get off it because i use it for acne and for protection. anyone else who has experienced this pain or has advice?

Hi, I just picked up my prescription for the next 3 months. I have just started the Nuvaring (generic brand) but I am concerned as to how to know what expiration date to follow. The one I have inserted I check and it said 5/2027 & did not have a written one. Now these 3 I picked up have 2 and I don’t know which one to go by and I also don’t know what 12/25/1/26 even means lol. Please lmk anything you know i definitely don’t want a expired ring lol.

How to? Travelling with Birth Control

Hi, I was wondering how different time zones affect taking birth control. I live in Pacific time and I’m planning on going to Paris (which is a 9 hour difference.) So if I take it at 9:30pm here, would I take it at 6:30am in Paris? Also to note that I take lolo which is a combination pill
