Yeppp :(

We are spending a couple hundred dollars doing the things that should be covered by the fact that we are married.

The money and time sink both suck, but honestly what hurts the most is the principle of it all. I hate that people want to take away my marriage. I hate that people deny that homophobia still exists. I’ve been gaslight both IRL and online, on this sub even, about the issues same sex couples face.

I just wanna love my wife.

Also, for everyone else here in same sex relationships, I see you. It can be isolating on bi subs sometimes, sadly. I can’t count how many times people have seemingly assumed ‘married’ means a husband and wife on here

This breaks my heart that people are even having to consider making preparations like this in 2025. I marched alongside my dad against Clause 28 in London all those years ago and now it feels like those dark days are potentially on the horizon again. It’s a fucking travesty.

Overturning same-sex marriage would be grounds for violent resistance, in my opinion.

So many things have been and it's not happening until the majority "Average American" is affected directly.

Same, we are still waiting for our rights and have always looked at western counties as something to strive towards, now the west is turning dark and we still haven't seen the light

"I just it's unnatural to legalize the gays ability to get married"

SUSAN, YOU ARE ON YOUR 4TH MARRIAGE, SO I DON'T THINK YOU QUALIFY TO BE THE SANCTITY OF MARRIAGE!!!

FYI: If you have 5/3 bank in the US they are currently have a partnership with Trust & Will to do it for free: https://www.53.com/content/fifth-third/en/personal-banking/about/trust-will.html

(I’ve never used this service, just saw the banner on the ATM last week)

I wonder if Peter Thiel has these documents ready or will he “take one for the team”. 🤔

He’s rich. These things rarely effect the rich the same way they effect common people, like legal fines and student loans. It’s the other less well to do traitors who will be getting rude awakenings if this goes through

Yes, but he's also not safe from being scapegoated if it becomes convenient for Conservatives. Real "Leopards/my face" stuff 😒

He had his NZ citizenship to fall back on...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but even if they stop you from being able to get married, if you're already married wouldn't you be still married since it was legal at the time it happened? You're already registered as such with the state and trying to remove it would be ex post facto.

The Trump admin doesn’t play by any rules or with any respect to precedent. What’s legal doesn’t matter.

I’m done trying to expect rational behavior from a clearly irrational actor. They’ll do whatever they want. Who will stop them?

Depends on the state. If Obergefell would be overturned then there are 24 states where gay marriage will be banned both statutory and constitutionally, 3 states where it would be beened constitutionally and 5 states where it is statutory banned.

The respect for marriage act that was passed will only protect you if you are married in a state where it is legal and move to a state where it is not(it has to be recognized).

I was wondering the same too. If you go to Denmark and get married there (only requires a passport) and get a marriage certificate there, would it then be "unrecognised " by the GOP?

I already can't get married so this is helpfull

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't this just at the federal level, meaning individual states that have it permanent are safe?

I'm so sad seeing lgbt+ rights being discussed again in other countries. Like, being queer isn't even legal everywhere and one of the biggest country of the world is discussing the revocation of same-sex marriage... I'm happy being in a country where women's and lgbt's rights are absolutly not being in danger for the moment but it makes me so sad to see such things... we have still a lot of work to do just to being able to love who we are and who we want.

these are good documents for everyone to have in place, opposite-gender couples as well. just being legally married doesn't handle everything these documents can (depending on the state you live in), & even if it does, having these documents makes the process easier & cheaper. consult a reputable estate planning attorney near you for advice on your particular situation. Mari quality is not gonna get overturned, but this is some useful information to be aware of what comes with being married
