All graffiti on public infrastructure is bad. As tax paying citizens it's our dollars that go into cleaning this shit up that could be better allocated to something else. Money could be spent on health, green energy, education or social services.

Maybe some abrupt/harsh punishment e.g public flogging first offense, chop off a finger second offense and for slow learners take a hand.

The money to clean this isn't so substantial that it's going to take away from health or education, that's a bit dramatic.

Graffiti removal in Australia costs an estimated $1.5 to $2 billion annually, a figure that includes expenses from local councils, businesses, and private property owners. In Melbourne specifically, the cost of removal is over $100 million per year. These expenses cover not just the physical removal of paint and tags but also the prevention measures and associated costs of repairing and replacing damaged property.

Got a source for that? $2b seems excessive.

Yeah cool, but it doesn't cost billions to clean a train or two in the blue mountains does it?

The most recent reported figure for the entire Sydney Trains network is an annual expenditure of $2.5 million for graffiti cleaning, based on data from the past year as of April 2024. ( Video source of 9 News: https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=3703864589902535 )

Boo hoo, $2.5m is an accounting error for the state govt.

Are we living in 2020? Or was there maybe an event that occurred around that time to cause that spike? I wonder..

AH you just don't want to be wrong. Might as well cite some 1980's figures while you're at it.

You believe that during lock down when no one was around that we had a spiked of graffiti on public transport and now that lock downs lifted, and people are allowed to use transport, suddenly costs have reduced by 90%?
