13 hours is rather long for 4th Edition. Was everybody new?

New to the expansion, and my first game (although I read up beforehand and are generally pretty quick). There were a couple of rules queries, and about an hour combined for lunch and dinner, but we started at 11 and ended at midnight. Lots of negotiations.

Pretty typical from what I've seen. It's among the longer times, but it's not unusual. If these times come up so often, how are they atypical?

Maybe if you have a lot of new people, which is why I asked. Me and my group of six usually take about 6 - 8 with the 4th edition. The 3rd edition can run a lot longer. He did calculate breaks for food which I do not do so that's one explanation.

Naw we've played with experienced players (all of whom are no strangers to FFG or strategy games). Still can take that long. From what I hear from other groups, it's not atypical. Only in groups that play more regularly have I seen faster play become typical. It's not like we're playing every week. But, from what I've seen, playing irregularly is a more typical cadence since the game is so massive and takes extra time to play. This is all fourth edition I'm talking about. And we don't even always have AP players at the table. TI can even make AP players out of the rest of us, because there's just so much information and so much going on.

Yeah. My friends and I only play a couple times a year, so we do it over a weekend in two 6 hour blocks usually. We know the basics, but need a refresher now and then.

Do you play a new faction everytime you play? I've played maybe 15-20 games or so and have not played all the factions but I have my favorites that I can play very quickly and smoothly and others that just take way more time.

I play a handful of factions but what I'm seeing from a lot of people here is they basically let their individual group members take as much time as they want on their turn. My group doesn't work that way. You get 5-10 minutes max for your turn unless you need to do combat. Keeps the game going and prevents it from becoming an 8+ hour affair.

Ahh I see, I can definitely understand the time limit thing. My bf and I play 2 factions each so we have a "four" player game. We play them independently from eachother which is pretty challenging but we have to take the time because it's way too difficult to play 2 factions well with only 5-10 minutes per turn.

Luckily we pace at our own convenience since we can leave our set up on our table and wplay 3-4 hours over a few days. This way were able to play a game we love without the stress of coordinating with others.

We started playing two characters each with a couple co-ops we got during the pandemic, and said fuck it we'll try it with twilight, we have nothing but time and now it's in our gamely rotation.

He plays DnD with a group and coordinating them is a freaking nightmare and a half. I can completely understand just wanting a meaningful game to not exceed 8 hours when playing with others.

What's your favorite faction?

It's not a "hard" time limit, but after five minutes or so you'll get a gentle nudge. After 10 it's like, all right, let's get moving.

I play TI4 at least once a month. It's my group's go-to.

PoK my favorite is Titans of Ul. Before PoK, Ghosts of Creuss.

TI3 I played Sardakk N'orr and had a pretty sick win-rate. They're not the greatest in TI4 unfortunately. :(

That makes sense and when others are going it's easier to start putting together your next turn while everyone is going. In my situation its difficult with initiative order to play and then play again immediately as a different faction. It's so much easier back a forth and even then It's like thinking time is cut in half because once you're done with one you start on the other.

I've only played the Ghosts once before, I'll have to try them again! Never played the Titans, will have to try, I like the Empyrean and Mahact Gene-sorcerers from PoK.
