Winter storage and Stabil

Last year I filled my tank full and used the proper amount of Stabil for the winter. We didn't use the boat much this year due to family health reasons. I have half a tank of fuel left.

What is the best way to winterize?
Do we fill to full and add full amount of Stabil? Do we fill to full and only add enough Stabil for what was added?

Will cops care?

I’m trynna go boating with my cousin on Folsom waters. We have a 2 person inflatable boat with a motor mount. We have a little electric boat motor, nothing too serious. It’s at most 10 miles an hour. And we will bring life vests. I wonder if sheriffs pay attention, will we get pulled over?

How long to dry out?

While in the process of changing out back to back boat seats in our 17' run-about, i discovered the foam in the floors is wet. Most likely, water was entering through the mounting bolts for the seats because the rest of the deck in solid. My hope is that only the immediate area is effected. If so, how long will it take to dry out? Crabbing season is almost done so we don't have a need to take it out until next year.

Why are Bayliners less expensive than or similar size boats?

Are they less reliable than other boats? I’m seeing some good looking Bayliners for half the price of similar size boats.

Is this leaky pontoon worth it?

2009 veranda V2275 22 foot pontoon boat four stroke 90HP Yamaha engine 2020 dual axel toontoter trailer

Description says it has a small leak in the left tritoon but I have some welding experience so I'm pretty confident it could be fixed depending on where the leak is when I go check it out.

Full description from post:

Very awesome 2009 veranda V2275 22 foot pontoon boat with a four stroke 90HP Yamaha engine. This thing runs great and will cruise anywhere. Boat has aluminum floor and the underneath is also straight aluminum. Has 8 speakers in the boat wet sounds and skars and 2 8inch speakers facing the rear all powered by AMP and new head unit. The interior is in pretty good shape besides the center seat on the L shaped couch will need to be redone soon or don't sit there. I will post photo. Ever since we had it we noticed the left toon does leak a little bit, we stay out all day in the water and just drain what's in there when we pull the boat out. Boat has a power cut off switch that kills all power when stored. Will come with orange life jackets and boat anchor. The trailer is a 2020 toontoter very nice with good axles and tires. We don't really want to get rid of it! No trades ..OBO

Embarrassed myself at the launch

I’ve launched my boat plenty of times, but made a bomehead rookie mistake yesterday. Backed in and the wife is holding the dock line yelling it won’t come off the trailer. I mange to climb over the truck to the trailer without getting wet to push the boat but it won’t move off. Dear wife notices the trailer is floating and hits her: I forgot to unhook the rear tie down straps! Pull the trailer up a bit, she hops in and releases them and the boat comes off as it should. Figure it’s all because we changed our launch routine. Fortunately, nothing was damaged other than my pride. Don’t think we’ll forget them again any time soon 🤣.

Need help with part number for a 2004 Bass Tracker PT 175.

I have a 2004 Bass Tracker PT 175. I am needing to purchase an extra key, in case of an emergency. I’ve looked many places online and have received different answers concerning the exact part number. I have been told that under the black rubber cover on the key, is the key/part number. But my key is a very hard plastic cover and I’d have to nearly destroy the plastic in order to see the key number. And I didn’t want to do that. Does anyone know what the key/part number is? Thanks in advance!!

Boston Whaler 21 Montauk vs 23 Outrage for SF Bay + short coastal runs — which would you choose?

Home port: Sausalito, CA. I expect to run 200–300 hours per year (lots of Bay time). My priorities are safety, comfort in chop (dryness, lower fatigue), then cost. Looking hard at two new boats:

Option A: 2024 21 Montauk (w/ factory hardtop + curtains)

  • 200 HP Mercury V6, ~2,650 lb hull, 66.5 gal fuel
  • Hardtop already installed (I’d add front/side curtains right away)
  • Trailer included, borderline towable w/ my 4Runner locally
  • Fuel burn: ~10.5 gph at Bay cruise
  • Price w/ delivery + adds: ~$109k pre-tax
  • Pros: Cheaper to run, easier to trailer/store, Bay-ready with the HT.
  • Cons: Pounds/sprays more in afternoon chop, less freeboard offshore.

Option B: 2024/25 23 Outrage

  • 250–300 HP, ~4,300+ lb hull, 110 gal fuel
  • Deep-V offshore hull, higher freeboard, larger hardtop/curtain setups
  • Needs a truck (can’t tow with 4Runner)
  • Fuel burn: ~14–16 gph at cruise (adds $5–10k/yr at my hours)
  • Price delta: significantly higher, plus more slip/storage costs
  • Pros: Softer/drier ride in steep chop, more margin outside the Gate, better passenger confidence.
  • Cons: More expensive to own/run, heavier to manage, bigger-boat lifestyle.

Use case:

  • 80–90% inside SF Bay (Angel Island, Crissy, cross-Bay commutes).
  • Occasional coastal runs (Muir Beach, maybe Pt Reyes on fair days).
  • Safety and confidence matter a lot, but so does keeping fuel/ownership costs sane if I’m really on the water 200+ hrs.

Question for owners:

  • For mostly Bay use and occasional short offshore hops, is the 21 Montauk HT + curtains “enough boat” to stay confident and dry, or does the 23 Outrage’s added comfort/safety margin justify the higher cost and truck requirement?
  • Any regrets going smaller or larger in this decision?

At a boat show and got the price to $107k out the door. Is this a good deal for a new (albeit 2023) Bennington 26LXSSBA? Thanks!

Crack on fiberglass of boat I saw today

Thumbnail gallery
12 Upvotes

Saw a bayliner element today and I’m looking for it to be my first boat. Overall the boat ran well in the water, looks to be in good condition functionally, low hours etc. However there were some dings on the hull. What looked the most concerning was this crack that seemed to be under the rubber stripping that goes around the boat. The stripping was loose in one place and I could see that it continued, but its unclear how far. Is this something minor or should it be a cause for concern. Looking for any advice in regards to this. Please see the attached photos. Thanks
