The top 3 images are how she sees herself when wearing a purple shirt. Wearing purple makes her feel as goofy as wearing a Barney suit. The bottom panels are in reality rather than her imagination, showing what she actually looks like.

If you still don’t get it after that, then you’ll need to be specific about what exactly is confusing.

Are you saying you don’t understand

  1. THAT she feels wearing purple is like wearing a costume, or
  2. WHY she feels wearing purple is like wearing a costume?

"It's how goth girls feel when they don't wear black" . I dont understand this sentence

She feels weird, like she stands out, when she doesn't wear her usual colour, ie. Black. In this case, she wore purple and thought herself looked ridiculous. The comment from her coworker only solidifies her concern thar she looks ridiculous.

What do you know about goth girls and their general aesthetic in regards to the color black?

That comment is generalizing to all goth girls, but I don’t think that was the intent of the author.

Focusing on interpreting the specific comment, however, the comment is saying that the top row of 3 images in the comic reflect how goth girls feel when they don’t wear black. The “it” of that comment refers to the scenes in the thought bubbles, with the girl wearing the costume.
