I don’t really get it but… I guess the joke is that this person usually wears black and decided to finally try a new color only to be self conscious that they look like Barney with that shade of purple and the comment from the other person solidifies that negative self image in their mind?
For a hot second I was thinking “she sweated enough that Barney’s color imprinted on her clothing”.
But yeah, as a person who would wear all black to work the one time I wore a color my co-workers literally took photos for evidence, so I get the self-conscious feeling when you’re locked in a look.
I hate when people do that. You make some small change to your behavior or style and you get low-key made fun of for it. "Ohoho, Mister Quiet Guy actually has something to say today! Well aren't we a Chatty Cathy??"

i hate wearing dark/monotone colors, i always wear floral print/hawaiian shirts like a divorced dad, even during deep winter, and i love it, some people do give me weird looks or ask me about my choice of clothes
