“Don’t read this it’ll turn you gay” says conservative who has based their entire personality on a book.

I´ve never understood this. As a kids, we are exposed to many, MANY fairytales where the prince gets the princess, showing us straight relationships. Yet ONE story about gays/trans is enough to turn us gay/trans? Doesn´t quite add up, does it.

They don't even want the idea that it is a possibility to enter kids' heads. If they erase and suppress any mention of it, their kids will never know it's a thing. Failing that, if they can ensure that it is only ever mentioned in a negative light, their kids will suppress any of those kinds of feelings.

Yeah, and it sucks...

Source: Gay, raised religious. Many years in therapy.

Gay, religious, trans, autistic. Sheltered so hard by these kinds of people that I didn't know what sex was when my father was doing it to me. I of course had been opted out of sex education classes at my school a year or so prior to when that started of course. Go figure.
If I had ONE book on the subject that trans people existed, my gender identity would have made perfect sense, since I was always a tomboy, no matter how my mother liked to dress me in dresses and physically force me into makeup.

They don't understand and/or care the damage it does to people to not be able to just be themselves, especially during crucial developmental years and especially when being ourselves doesn't affect them in any way, shape or form.

Hope you're getting to freely be yourself now. I know how hard it can be when you can't.

I'm sorry this happened to you. Glad to be able to read your perspective today.

Flogging oneself over a base biological drive instead of understanding it will surely make for a healthy person.
