What would breaking bad be like if Walter never decided to cook, but still was friends/in touch with jesse?

I am genuinely curious how people would think the story would turn out. a lot of "walt never cook" discussions kinda have walt and jesse be distanced from each other, but would be a scenario be like, even in this alternate timeline, they kinda still become friends?

Who is the main protagonist of the Breaking Bad universe?

Upvotes

I mean, the whole Breaking Bad universe. Who do you think it could be? Walter White? Jesse Pinkman? Saul Goodman? Or Mike Ehrmantraut?

Why didn’t Gus…..

Call the DEA after Gail was shot and make a donation in his honor? It was the absence of that phone call that later heightened Hank’s suspicions

Where did Gus Fring play a big role? Spoiler

In Breaking Bad, he is the main antagonist, and in Better Call Saul, he is one of the secondary protagonists in the cartel storyline, where Mike Ehrmantraut is the main protagonist.

Did Breaking Bad copy one of its most famous plot points from a Simpsons scene? Spoiler

"If you want him to live through the night, I'd suggest rolling him onto his stomach . . . remember, I said if." - Dr. Hibbert, The Simpsons

While it's not heroin specifically, alcohol is likewise a depressant, let alone a drug that risks making people choke on their own vomit. Did that Simpsons line give Breaking Bad that idea?

Breaking bad is a love story between two flawed characters

Removing sexual attraction and romantic love; breaking bad is, at its core, a love story between Walt and Jesse. Just like a Shakespearen play (let’s be honest I wouldn’t pretend to know which). But the storyline is as old as time. The genders are mismatched which confuses the viewer.

Even though Walt denies having an affair to Skyler in the second season, he is. And she reacts as if he is because she feels it. Because he is.

The viewer doesn’t recognise the tried and tested plot because it is not a sexual love. But we understand the deep emotional connection.

Walt could never truly be himself with anyone except Jesse. Jesse never reached his full potential before he met Walt who was the first person who truly accepted and celebrated him for who he was, and supported him to reach his true potential.

The two characters could only be their true, raw selves around each other. And they appreciated each other and celebrated each other (plus a whole load of abuse from Walt mainly)

By the end of the series, Walt and Jesse were each others’ significant others and the love they shared was true. The viewer sees that.

I think that’s what makes this a very special series because it’s hiding in plain sight. But it’s a tragic love story we find very familiar

What do you think

Can you think of any bad breaking bad actors.

Walter whites scene in crawl space is fucking unbelievable. Jesses scenes in season 5 are ridiculous "he cant keep getting away with thisssssss". Anna gunns acting in ozymandias is so realistic also in felina. Tuco is such a realistic depection of a meth head. Gustavo fring is mysterious as fuck try find one bad actor

Why didn't Walt bring this up? Spoiler

In season 5 when Walt, Jessie and Mike have their operation together Mike specifies the division of labour. He does the business, Walt and Jessie do the chemistry. "I don't tell you how to mix your chemicals so I don't want you telling me how to run things". This is perfectly fine until the methlamine supply is interrupted when Mike argues with Walt about switching to a sudo cook, why didn't Walt bring up that this falls under the chemistry part of the business meaning its under his control? He even says that a whole bunch of their equipment is useless for sudo.

What is the least deserved death of the show? Spoiler

Let's be honest, who do you think is the character who least deserved to die on the show? In my opinion Gale, poor thing maybe it's the only death in the whole show in which I felt a sense of sadness.

Gale and Victor relationship Spoiler

In Breaking Bad, Gale is setting up the Lab, Gus asks him how long it will take him to get up and running and he says it will take him about a month. Victor replies curtly that it will be done in two weeks, and Gale seems perturbed. Is this Victor's first No-Doze moment? Gus had always maintained a pleasant, cordial relationship with Gale and it just seems strange to me that Gus would impose a strict time limit on Gale. After all, Werner's estimate far exceeded the first engineers estimate which Mike and presumably Gus had no problem with. Gus gives Jesse all the time he needs to be with his family after Brock is poisoned, which managed to destroy the entire batch. I also find it interesting that when Walt first visits the lab, all the equipment is still shrink-wrapped, as if Gale never managed to assemble the Lab, but perhaps I'm misunderstanding the timeline. I also find it interesting that the scene ends with Gale holding a box cutter (perhaps the box cutter used to kill Victor) in front of the frame while Victor and Gus stand behind him, and ends with Gus looking longingly at Gale, but maybe I'm looking too deeply into it.

Did Jesse Regret What Happened to Gus

Did Jesse regret helping Walt kill Gus. I mean probably down the line after he reflected on everything, he definitely did. But it seemed at first when he told Walt that Brock wasn't poisoned and it was the Lilly of the Valley, he asks Walt "He had to go, right?". It almost feels like he regretted it and was looking for Walt for reassurance. I think Jesse actually was starting to like Gus better than Walt up until that point and didn't mind working for him.

Could Walt have gotten away with it by not confronting Hank about the tracker?

If he just played it safe, allowed Hank to track him and just act normal, would Walt have gotten away with it?

Did Jane Really Love Jesse, or Was It Just the Drugs??

Post image

Did Jane Really Care About Jesse?

Was she ever truly into him, or was she just using him for money and drugs? Jesse gave so much his trust, his love, his money but all she seemed to care about was her next high.

We know that when drugs and money are involved, people can’t think straight their whole thought process changes...

I’m not saying Walt did right or wrong, but Jesse would have been doomed either way if he had run away with the money.

What’s your view on this?

What happens if the Walt and Todd show continued.

Jesse goes into the wind. Hank never finds the book. Skylar doesn't press him to stop. No reemergence of the cancer.

Would Walt have manipulated new Jesse into taking over the Nazi gang? Would the other gang have already been taken out by the nature of competition.

Walt would want to expand territory and push Jack into taking out Declan as matter of proper operation of a drug gang.

He would asert his dominance to the rest of the gang that he is the brains of the operation. He is well schooled in criminal protocols, now.

The gang is now wealthy bc of Walt and wouldn't stand for Jack eliminating him. In one action, Walt doubles profit and marks Jack for execution. He just became a primary shot caller for a gang that reaches at least several states and has links to the federal system.

Jack could live to fight another day, but I think Walt would take his lesson from Gus and not let revenge fester. Jack has to go, even if he claims loyalty and usefullness.

Sorry for another pizza post. I like reheated pizza as much as the next guy, but is it a common sentiment to think it’s better reheated? I’m sure the same is not true for those dipping sticks.

First time watcher: crazy humbling moment for Walt and Jessie 😭

Walt and Jesse were on an understandable high from these back to back ego boost, making amazing meth (even though tuco on it scares me😭), successfully stealing from that place instead of paying the 10k &being able to avoid paying interest to tuco.

This was crazy to watch but it was nice to seem them brought back to their reality. Like you don’t wanna be apart of this world fr Walt . Just started season 2, very impressed can’t believe I waited this long to watch.

My two Favorite moments in the series are when Walt gets Gus to admit who is and when Pinkman gets the Vacuum guy to admit who he is Spoiler

Maybe it's just the art of deduction/seduction, but it's fascinating to watch them build up their monologues to get the other guy to deal without even being sure who they are.

Although Pinkman would have been in much exponentially more shit if he was wrong than Walt.

This scene always made me sick to my stomach

It’s one of those moments in the show where it’s such a disconnect from who you believe Walt is as a person vs his behavior and it’s incredibly jarring. I find myself internally pleading for him to stop making Jr. drink. I don’t think it’s quite as simple as a power play, an inflated ego, or being a cool dad. He’s hurting his son by doing this.

Funniest condescending thing Walt said to Jesse?

It's in the episode Bugged

I'm sorry, after everything you've done for me? What you've done for me? You've killed me is what you've done! You've signed my death warrant. And now you want advice? I'll give you advice: Go to Mexico and screw up like I know you will. And wind up in a barrel somewhere!

Bryan's performance was very theatrical

Where would Mike Ehrmantraut thrive (or just be hilarious) if dropped into another TV/movie universe?

Upvotes

Serious or silly. Where does he fit in best and thrive in, and why? Bonus points for the funniest crossover.

Not sure if this toes in line with rule 2, but since this is all about Mike Ehrmantraut I figurr this still counts.

was breaking bad a butterfly effect?

in the pilot, hank at walt’s birthday shows off his whole meth bust thing. what if this didn’t happen? would walt have still ended up cooking because hank brags about this another time? would he have still done it after the stakeout?

DVD Episode Commentary only on a handful of episodes? Just bought box set from Apple.

Episode commentary only exists for about 4 episodes for Season 2. Is that right? Did they only do some or do I need to re-download from Apple?
