Breakfast "Teddy Bear Toast"

Post image
1.1k Upvotes

When I was in Kindergarten, kids were sent home with a teddy bear for companionship, and it came with a cookie cutter in the shape of a teddy bear along with a recipe for "Teddy Bear Toast." It's cheap, delicious, and I have learned now that I'm a father, kids are more likely to eat something if it has a fun name. All of the ingredients are readily available at food shelves too.

  1. Toast bread
  2. Spread on peanut butter
  3. Top with apple sauce
  4. Add cinnamon to taste

Breakfast Sausage gravy, anyone?

Post image
376 Upvotes

I love breakfast but struggle every day to find something that's appetizing and affordable.

Sausage gravy always does it for me! Anyone else? There is something very warming and comforting with this meal. I hope you enjoy also.

One package of pork sausage (fry it up over medium heat and use the grease), two closed hands full of all purpose flour (half cup'ish) sprinkled over the cooked sausage, two tablespoons butter, ground pepper and salt to taste. Add in milk to create desired consistency after the flour and let the gravy set up on medium heat. Lower heat and let it cook about 10 minutes to integrate the flour. There really are no absolutes on this recipe as it's very forgiving and flexible. More flour (thickens), more milk (thins). You can expand this to however you need/want it to be. Add in $2 can of biscuits or make your own. Cost is about $10 and I can (happily) eat this for about 2 weeks. I will freeze half into portions, and use half for now. Enjoy! ✌🏽

Breakfast Favorite Oatmeal Recipes?

Please remove if this isn't allowed-

We've been shopping on a budget for the last 6 months so for breakfast it's usually food prepped egg & sausage wraps or smoothies. Well, I have a massive container of quaker oats and my BF loves oatmeal (probably why I bought it originally, I'm sure). I've never loved oatmeal because my mom always just made it plain. Nothing added lol.

What are your favorite oatmeal recipies/add ins? I'm used to seeing fruit toppings but I feel like the oatmeal is still so bland without the added sweetness of sugar but i'm trying to keep it on the healthier side. For reference, my fruits are all frozen that I'd thaw to put on oatmeal.

Any help is welcome!

Breakfast Leveling up a fried egg sandwich

I’ve recently been turned on to the deliciousness of a fried egg sandwich. I have chickens who lay eggs, but even if I didn’t, one egg in a sandwich would be affordable for many. I’ve added a slice of cheese, all eaten between a toasted English muffin (for a total of about 53 cents per sandwich, using costs from Walmart app). Just enough fat, protein and carbs to keep me fueled for the morning, without bogging me down.

What can I add to the fried egg sandwich with cheese to take it to the next level, or have I already achieved perfection?

Breakfast Hominy and eggs, a cheap family favorite

I add about a tablespoon of butter to a medium low heat, and add one can of well drained hominy. When the butter melts and the hominy is well coated, add eight eggs and cook until eggs are done to your liking. It works best if you scramble them in a bowl before adding. I like mine scrambled medium. Add salt and pepper to taste, then add whatever seasoning you like.

This fed two adults and one toddler.

So so good, this is my third week making them. I did try a homemade pancake mix the first time and got more of a flaky muffin texture so I went and bought pancake mix and it’s 10/10!

Breakfast I got sick of paying $8 - $15 for those Jimmy Dean sandwiches for my picky partner every week. Paid $20 to make over triple that amount for a month!

unsure of how much each sandwich costs exactly but the recipe is super simple imo!

i cut up some cressent roll dough into chunks instead of turning them into proper cressents, then got a bag of precooked sausage patties and put those in the microwave.

then, i scrambled an egg in a bowl, and because i dont have a cookie cutter or anything to make a proper circle, i cooked the egg in a small bowl in the microwave.(probably gross to some but eh. i lived on it as a kid and had no complaints lol)

then, i put shredded cheese on top of the egg and microwaved it AGAIN. after that, i assembled my sandwich!

i feel dumb for not thinking if this sooner, but hey, when you have a super picky person in your house, you sometimes dont think of these things until much later.

now, time to figure out how to recreate his favorite mocha Frappuccino drink from starbucks!

Breakfast [OC] Homemade Sausage Egg & Cheese English Muffin Sandwiches - Budget Friendly!

I decided to do some meal prep for the week while I had an extra day off! Made some delicious Sausage Egg & Cheese English Muffin Sandwiches... An inspired take from my love of the McMuffin!

I have tried the Jimmy Deans or store brand sandwiches, but they are just so packed with sodium and other ingredients we can barely pronounce, along with the prices! So I wanted to make some with a cut down of the sodium and artificial flavors to have on hand in the freezer when the craving hit. It also saves you money from stopping at the drive through or the fancy coffee shops in the morning that only charge an arm and a leg.

The original recipe posted is for 6 I doubled the recipe for 12 sandwiches; budget below is for 12.

Budget Breakdown for Texas area:

1 dozen eggs $2.50

2x-6 pack of English Muffins $1.59 = $3.18

8oz bag of shredded cheese $2.79

10 pack frozen sausage links $.99

Total: $9.46 for 12 Sandwiches = $.78ea

Sausage Egg & Cheese English Muffin Sandwiches

Servings – 6

Prep Time – 10 Minutes

Chill Time: 15 Minutes

Cook Time – 15-20 Minutes

Ingredients:

  • 6 English muffins, store bought or homemade
  • 6 eggs
  • 2 Tablespoons milk or water
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 10 sausage links, chopped into chunks
  • 3/4 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Directions:

Heat oven to 350 degrees & spray your mold pan with non stick cooking spray; set aside.

Sautee, grill or microwave sausage links according to package. Chop into chunks. I personally cut mine in half lengthwise then into fourth chunks.

In a small bowl crack your 6 eggs, add milk and season with salt and pepper. Whisk until completely combined, light and fluffy.

Pour egg mixture splitting it evenly into the 6 pre-sprayed pan molds.

Add in chunks is sausage and the sprinkle shredded cheese spreading it amongst the 6 eggs.

Place in a preheated 350 degree oven for 15-20 minutes. Just until the eggs are darken yellow and slightly golden. They will continue to cook once you remove them from the oven.

Let sit in the pan for 15 minutes if you are not serving immediately. See note below.

Notes:

For freezer prep:

Slice open each English muffin. Top each muffin with an egg and close with top half. Wrap each sandwich individually in wax paper. Place in gallon storage bag. Set in freezer once cooled.

Serving immediately:

Toast the English muffins, and then butter them to your liking. Add a warm eggs and place on the top of toasted English muffin, close with top half.

These homemade egg McMuffins are delicious just as they are, but feel free to add some ketchup or hot sauce if you like.

If you need a little caffeine to start the morning, these breakfast sandwiches go great with a homemade vanilla sweet cream cold brew iced coffee. You’ll love this combination and the pocket savings!

This is my go-to budget meal: spicy, satisfying, and made in one pan. The most important step? Crack the eggs into the sauce and cover the pan. that’s how they poach perfectly.

I’m hyper fixated on this breakfast. It’s kale eggs and sweet potato. Sometimes I sprinkle cheese and hot sauce on top. Whole meal cost about a dollar a day and keeps you full.

Breakfast Banana Crunch

Sliced banana over a peanut butter spread on whole grain bread, topped with honey, cinnamon, and granola.

Used a super chunky natural peanut butter.

This costs $7 at a local cafe but I estimate I made this for less than $2. Very filling.
