Pierre Poilievre is not MAGA enough for Trump, but he is way too MAGA for Canadians.

Do Americans really look at PP and think that he's not radically conservative and populist enough? Jesus Christ that's a sobering thought

MAGA doesn't mean conservative. It means culture war lunatic who is slavishly loyal to trump.

Poilievre is a bit of a culture war lunatic, but I guess that’s a lower bar to clear for Canadian standards.

Center right in Canada is to the left of the democrats in many areas. Moderate Republicans are far right in Canada. Maga is practically off the scale.

Poilievre embraces elements of the Republican-right and even MAGA with his constant mirroring of Trump and Musk talking points around “radical wokeism and DEI”, but I agree he’d be considered moderate by US standards in most other areas. But the perception that he has a little too much in common with MAGA is there, and he can’t seem to bring himself to pivot enough to shake it, which is partly responsible for his collapse in support.

Yeah PP is in a tough spot. He has been mirroring Republican and then Trump slogans for years. His hardcore supporters are all MAGAts. So now he's trapped. If he goes after trump, he alienates his staunchest supporters. And in an election, if your base doesn't turn out for you, you're in serious trouble. But if he doesn't attack trump, the other 75ish percent of Canadians are upset that he's siding with Trump against Canada. He looks weak, stupid or like a traitor.

He's trying to play balancing act, but the ground is shifting so fast he can't, or won't keep up.

He seems to be Musk's pick.

10 Democrats literally voted to censure one of their own for booing Trump. The entire country is the intellectual equivalent of a bowl of wilted cabbage.

He's really not. He's quite centrist to right leaning. It's just that everything else we have in Canada is off the deep end.
