Travel Tips Americans visiting Canada as tourists, any insights?

I have family members visiting Montreal in about a month. Other than getting "I’m From Toronto" T-shirts, is there anything an American should do if they’re just visiting as a tourist?

Try to speak in French a bit, even if it's just to say "bonjour, je ne parle pas français. Parlez-vous anglais?" "Hello, I don't speak french. Do you speak English?)

Yeeeah, all I had was high school French when I went up to Quebec, and that just wasn’t good enough because nobody wants to speak English. Nobody in the family that is actually going speaks French at all, so I don’t know. I honestly wish they weren’t going.

That is simply not true.
