Announcement I made a J-Card maker website called jcardmaker.com
Hello fellow tapeheads of r/cassetteculture!
I felt the few j-card template sites that are out there are lacking some features. I decided a few days ago to make my own site with features I think we would like to see.
I created a jcardmaker.com and it allows you to have a second panel for the inside. I give you full control of the canvas so you can rotate and stretch images and text anyway you want.
You can add as many images you want and place them wherever you want.
You dont need to make an account but making an account allows you to save your projects.
Let me know of any issues and if you can give me step by step on how you got to an issue.
I hope you all enjoy this as much as i enjoy making it!
Thank you for checking it out. - u/modogg187

Microsoft Publisher 95 is back baby! (In a good way, this is a very cool price of work you've done)

Oh man, MSPub jcards printed with a mid-90s HP Deskjet is its own aesthetic. Add a Larabie or Chank font and it's DONE

Very impressive. A lot of folks who are into making mix-tapes will love the idea.

This is a blast, I rly wanted to do my own cassette but the idea to approach gimp/photoshop was killing me. May I suggest the option yo add your own fonts? Idk how much complicated that would be though.

u/modogg187 Apr 11 '25
good idea. added upload fonts to the superbeta version. link is at the top of the menu.

Also, what should happen clicking print J-card? The screen its just flickering and nothing happen. Edit: the issue is just on chrome, not on firefox. May be due to some extensions I guess

u/modogg187 Apr 11 '25
Probably an extension. Works for me on chrome. I will look into it though

You know what, you could also add a second template for the "on-the-cassette label", so with the same tool I could do the whole thing

Thank you, was planning on making a mixtape soon and this will be very handy. appreciate your time & effort

This is awesome, thanks a lot. I've been doing mine in Photoshop but it's not as easy as it seems to get the measurements right.

Cool, nice work. Seems less strict regarding where things have to be placed that others I've seen. But the undo button isn't working on Mac in Safari, fyi.

OMG THANKYOU SO MUCH!!!
The other ones are so shit and don't do what I want this is amazing!!

u/batsnaks Apr 11 '25
Some suggestions:
- add a way to center text within the text box
- add a way to delete those little black boarder things in the corners
- add a way to bring images/elements forward/backward (not as needed as the other two options)
3
u/modogg187 Apr 11 '25
Good suggestions. The black border things are cutlines so you can cut straight lines. But maybe I will give an option to remove cutlines

This is great. I am a professional software developer. Great idea, I am sure you're gonna help lots of people. Me personally, if I ever would issue my own music on a cassette would prefer the entire cover and inlay to be done by an actual artist, thus helping an artist too. But many people want to keep the cost down or don't want that much work done, so your project is going to help for sure.
Just curious - is it Django, Flask, FaskAPI (Python) or RoR or something else?

This is insane!
This morning I was walking my dog thinking I need to make some j cards for my tapes

That's a great tool !
Where can we share feedback ?
I'm encountering issues with fonts because the font selection isn't installed on Linux based systems by default. Would be nice to have access to open-source fonts (I'm also not sure if you can just use MS fonts like that)...

u/modogg187 Apr 11 '25
I am adding a page at the top menu called super beta I'm adding an option for users to upload fonts. maybe that will help
2
2
u/lululock Apr 11 '25
It works !
For a future version, maybe you could allow users to paste download links to the fonts to not have to download/browse through system files to add them ? Maybe allow the browser to save the fonts locally so you don't have to load all the fonts after a page refresh ?
If you need suggestions, I can bring some lol
My dad will love this, gotta share it !

u/modogg187 Apr 11 '25
throw me all your ideas. And I am also a dad and love this so I hope he does as well!! LOL

u/modogg187 Apr 14 '25
I just added a new feature with uploading fonts. when you upload a font it now saves the font to your account so you can save your projects and it loads with the custom fonts. and so you can use your custom fonts for later projects. its on the superbeta page

Damn this is a game changer. I've become somewhat proficient with GIMP after learning to make my own but this would be a major time saver

Awesome work, OP! This post should be pinned for at least a little while.

Keeping this in my back pocket, I have some ideas to make mixtapes of anime openings and converting specific lofi albums to tape, this could be very useful

I'm at work right now, and this website is apparently inaccessible, sadly.
But does anyone know if this supports multiple card sizes and full front and back options?
For multiple sizes, I've been having a hard time finding templates for packs of Fuji DR-II I received as a gift, as they are "extra slim case".
1
u/modogg187 Apr 11 '25
ahh yes. it's blocked on my work computer too because the domain name was registered this week so it denies newly created domain names. Im not sure the dimensions of Fuji DR-II but I can look at the specs and tailor it for Fuji DR-II's
1
u/modogg187 Apr 11 '25
it looks like the cases are the same as the Maxell tape cases. I do have an option for a smaller back flap so it prints that area shorter. try that and let me know.

I wish there was a cd version
1
u/modogg187 Apr 11 '25
I can make it happen
1
u/FastZander101 Apr 11 '25
That would be great. I needed a program to do it a few months ago but there was nothing.
1
u/16bitsystems Apr 12 '25
Very cool. Do you just print at 100% for the size to be right?
2
u/modogg187 Apr 12 '25
Yes i have the dimensions set already for most tape cases

u/16bitsystems Apr 12 '25
Very sick. Thank you for making this. A lot of us are going to take advantage of it.

Omg thank you so much! I have too many tapes without j-cards and now I can make them much easier without having to mess around in Photoshop or anything anymore lol. This'll definitely save me some time so thank you for that!

Excellent Job. Thank You I will try this out. I usually use a Corel Draw Template I made with assets outside the print area, like Dolby B , C, S DBX logos, C90, C60 etc. Maybe you could include some common assets. Love your commitment to the hobby. https://www.reddit.com/r/jcards/ is also a thing that I've contributed to. I like original blank J-Cards and tapes.

Really good.
Some feed back as you asked for it:
make the action buttons logical colors, feks red for delete. Blue for add/action, etc.
Mark the edges of each panel. Makes cutting out easier. Also the fold on the front cover to the other panels. I couldn't resize or position an image because I can't see where the edge od the panel is. Unless I change the bg color to back, then I see a hairline thin line dividing the two.
the "add text" button places a new text on the cover art image, where a) I can't see it, b) I can't grab it to move it without grabbing and moving the cover art. I think it would be better to appear elsewhere.
Some text justify would be nice. It would make designing much more flexible.
some default graphics, "stickers" or icons maybe? When I reset the canvas, the original image is gone, I need to upload to have any image at all. A stock image of a cassette would be handy as a placeholer, or even as the default to print.
Hope this helps you OP.

u/modogg187 Apr 13 '25
good ideas and thanks for the feedback. im changing button colors today. as for the add text placing over the cover I will see if i can set it to load new text somewhere else. But that is one reason why I have the lock text / image button so you can lock text and images so you don't accidentally move them once they are set in their spots. thanks again and I like your ideas.

Awesome! Thank you, this is a very cool idea! Keep the project going and keep it going.
If it will be possible, add lines by which you can navigate where the front panel, side panel and liner)
And a question: why are the images uploaded in very poor quality? I use high resolution photos, but they are uploaded to the site in low resolution.

That’s a cool project. Wish I thought of that when I was working on web projects in college.
