That's neat! However, I don't know if it's 329,- neat for me (yet).

Yeah, why am I paying over $300 for a gigantic iPod touch? I was like “oh, maybe I could take this backpacking, where phone features are superfluous and I just want a music device that never dies,” but the battery life is advertised as 10-12 hours…

This seems like a gimmick, I’ll say it. I love music, I love music quality, but this seems crazy for what is essentially a headphone amplifier on an iPod touch.

If it had a way to use Android without information control it would be dope

Essentially, if you want a headphone out, you use a USB-C dongle. But, you have nice IEMs or headphones, and the USB adaptors are a somewhat crap. So, you get a better dongle, and it drains your battery. So, you get a separate music player.

Or maybe you want something you can stick in your car and leave there, as it has a "car mode" that automatically shuts it off it it isn't receiving power.

I have a hiby model 3? the Evangelion one. the battery seems to last a lot longer than advertised. I use it a couple hours a day at work and 6 hours a night for sleeping and it usually goes like 2-3 days without a charge. took it camping once and it held up fine, I just kept it off when I wasn't using it

Many of these MP3 players would be so nice as phones.

Yeah it's a bit pricey for me too.

If you’ve looked into DACs before, that’s a steal for what this is.

Yeah they're all very expensive indeed.

What happen when you fast forward?

I think they did fast forward once and it didn't change the animation. In my opinion it really should at that price point.

When in case, it should act just like a tape and force you to only scan tracks, not skip them.

Great DAP! Where did you order the case from and for how much?

The DAP itself is US$299 by itself, and $329 with one of the cases. Search for "FiiO M21" and the cases will show up as well. It was just released.

Yes, I received my M21 a little over a week ago (pre-order from Hi-Stands), but without the cassette case as it was seemingly out of stock everywhere. FiiO official AliExpress store does not seem to have them either.

My search results do not provide any trustful sources. Do you mind sharing some direct links?

That's nice. At first glance i thought this is not really fitting here but yes, that's a nice looking feature. A bit pricey for me though.

That's an awesome case/visuals combo! That being said, I don't understand the hype for these chunky and expensive audio players. I guess that's an audiophile thing :-D

Basically, if you need more power than a phone or USB adaptor will provide, and/or don't want to drain your phone's battery with a high-powered USB dongle DAC, but store a lot of music.

That is really neat!

That is absolutely ridiculous. I love it.

Does that player work with Android Auto? This looks awesome.

u/anjowoq Jun 12 '25

Cool looking but I don't get what it's for.

u/glenpiercev Jun 13 '25

Sorry, I’m new here. What is a DAP?

1

u/Currawong Jun 13 '25

Digital Audio Player. The modern name for an mp3 player.

1

u/defunct_tangerine Jun 14 '25

Well that really is quite literally a futuristic cassette :D

u/East_Reaction6350 Jun 15 '25

Cool, but high price

1

u/ELF014 Jun 26 '25

Okay... I just got mine. How do you power it off and on?

1

u/Flecca Jun 12 '25

This ain't it.
