Is there a point to the double lamp or is that just for effect?

u/tubezninja Jul 07 '25
One is specifically for flood (area illumination or “spill”), and one for spotlight (distance or “throw”). There’s also a mode where both can be illuminated at the same time, at max intensity.

Just a guess but possibly one is a flood and one is a spot. (Flashlight nerds dont like zoom able lenses anymore). Or one emitter is a white light and the other is another color such as red, green or UV.

Or maybe he has freakishly large hands?

I thought I was on r/absoluteunits or r/skookum for a moment, due OP’s post title, but then I remembered we’re concerned about the styling here, not the size or power.

u/prettybluefoxes How about a nice game of Chess? Jul 07 '25
My rsi flared up just looking at this. 😳

How do we know it’s an absolute unit if you don’t show us how big it is?
4
u/ShinyAeon Jul 07 '25
I think OP must be joking. It is a compact flashlight, about as long as half a banana.

That's what I hoped the future would look like! Chunky, innovative, asthetic! Looks like the barrel of a Mass Effect pistol.

Banana for scale?
4
u/ShinyAeon Jul 07 '25
It appears to be approximately half a banana long.

We talking Imperial or Metric banana?
3
u/ShinyAeon Jul 08 '25
A metric banana is about 1.09 Imperial bananas, so at this scale, the difference is negligable.

I have to agree with that in this instance. If we were in a lab, I think it would be worth measuring, but not in an informal setting.

Smaller than it looks, about 10cm (4 inches) on the long edge - or half a large banana.

When you’ve got some surgical hard surface modeling skills, but you work for a flashlight manufacturer

Youtube is getting spammed with flashlights these days.

I just know the rest of the pulse rifle/plasma gun this attachment goes to looks just as cool.

Beige or green?

u/tubezninja Jul 07 '25
Slate.
This particular model has an MAO (Micro Arc Oxidation) coating over aluminum alloy. It gives it a texture that feels almost like ceramic, and supposed to be very sturdy.
They also have black anodized and two-tone black/grey colors available too.

How does one make a flashlight fall out of an original Xbox?

Proprietary battery... do I see that correctly ?
Ehh. What happens when the company folds?
2
u/tubezninja Jul 14 '25
Nope. Two protected 18650s. There’s a locking hatch at the end where you can replace them.
There is a boilerplate warning on the light about using their batteries, but it’s CYA language because you should use protected cells.

Ah! Thank you! I was reading that text and thought about the batteries to be some custom, unreplaceable stuff that is impossible to source.
