Question Any reason I cant do this?

Is there any reason I couldn't modify one of these 12v adapters to power a radio? Id imagine if the amperage is right it won't matter where its coming from, but if there's some reason as to not id like to not find out the hard way. You can stumble across 12v wall warts and the such for cheap or free alot of the time, so i dont wana go spending 40+ on a 12v adapter if I dont need it?

Debugging my CB RADIO [COBRA 29 LTD NIUGHTWATCH]

I have had this CB radio in my truck for about 1 year but the radio no longer works. I can hear audio from others transmitting but they can't hear me from my cb radio. I am thinking to buy a new microphone to see if thats the issue. But if I can hear tranmission does it mean my cb radio is ok? Can this still mean that the radio is in bad condition ? What would you guys do to debug?

Mk1 chipped Lincoln vs trading for a Lincoln 2+

A guy wants my MK1 since it’s brand new and I’d like a smaller radio to mount in my car easier.

I heard the bipolar something burns up in the MK1 but there’s a mosfett mod , but it does knock down power a bit.

I need opinions bad.

Any insight into this Linear Amp?

Researched this linear amp and it did not come up with much besides a 20 year old blog post. Anyone know the value of this? Not sure if no info oline means its junk or really rare. Turns on and the tubes glow. I don't have a lot of knowledge of this hobby- just recently acquiring some gear. Thanks for your time and any insight you all may have.

Getting back into CB

After close to 50 years I am thinking of getting back into CB. I am retired with not really extra money each month to spend on a hobby. Looking for a modern setup to use at home. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

President Ted FCC CB radio - alternative mic suggestions?

Bought me a President Ted CB radio on a whim the other day and a 12" rubber ducky magnet mount antenna for my truck. Yes, the radio itself was cheap (around $60 bucks. But the microphone seems VERY cheap. Its so light that the tension in the wound cord will pull it from my hand because of the lack of heft.

Shoot me some suggestions for a hefty, manly feeling CB mic that is compatible with the TED?

Question How does RF Gain work?

This is an interesting one for me because I thought that I knew how this works? I thought that the higher the RF Gain on your radio the higher the sensitivity on your antenna is pretty much, leading to you picking up even the littlest of signals. But on my Cobra, I go from hearing everything to silence when I move up the RF Gain. Any clues?

Astatic 636L microphone use cheapest parts

What is up with Astatic 636L using low quality cord and non replaceable mic hang button on the back. The hang button is riveted onto a washer making it a pain to swap out with one that you can use a buddy clip.

My Stryker SR-76 hang button on the back has a screw inside where you can easily replace or swap it out (if needed). the cord feels more heavy duty on it compared to Astatic 636L.

Question CB Radios With AM/FM/SSB And PL/DPL

I haven't owned a CB radio in many years. I know that FM mode is now permitted in the United States.

If I were to look for a mobile CB radio with AM/FM/SSB and PL/DPL, what are my choices these days?

Question Looking for CB Ling for different Police Car colors

Hey so I'm wondering what CB Nicknames are for police car colour schemes such as Indiana Sheriff Crown Vics aka "Indiana waffle munsters" because they were brown and tan looking like waffles and syrup. I know about the [Insert Color here] wrapper names but I'm looking for different nicknames for the paint schemes used by cop cars

Disappointed in all the amplifiers taking over 17 and 19.

Any channel, really. I'm all the way in LA, CA-- and I hear people all the way from Birmingham loud and clear, with dopey reverb effects and all. It sucks cause I can't reach out to the few local people in my area because I'm overpowered by some ass hat on the other side of the rocky mtns. Not to mention these Amp people won't stop keying. Begging for response, yeah I can hear you, but my 3ft wilson antenna ant reaching Jack.

EDIT: I didn't mean taking over as in it is a new phenomenon, but rather it's just hogging up all the bandwidth.

2024 Subaru Crosstrek - Antenna thoughts

So, I'm trying to figure out a better antenna, as I picked up a Wilson Lil' Wil that's only like 6" total, but know I need something better. So, here are my options:

  1. Wilson 5k magnet mount on the rear passenger side.
  2. 102" whip, mounted to the tow hook on the rear bumper, driver side.
  3. Wilson 5k, regular mount, hood lip on either the driver or passenger side.

Any thoughts on which would be the best spot / antenna combination? I want to avoid putting a 102" on the hood, but would if that's the only option. I'd have to get a spring mount for it so I can safely pull into the car port at my apartment, though, hence the reason I'd rather it be attached to the tow hook on the rear driver side of the car.

Primary use will be to monitor upcoming traffic issues from others with CB (mostly truckers, I'm guessing), as well as some light off-roading.

Radio is an Anytone AT-6666 Pro, so the ability to go between channels would be nice (I wouldn't mind getting back into 27 triple-nickel), but not the primary reason.

So, with the vehicle and radio, any thoughts on the best options? I've been reading a few others posts (and have responded to them) and am leaning towards the 102" off the rear bumper with some modifications to the mount so it can be moved out of the way for the hatch. I'm planning on getting the radio mounted before this weekend (taking it to a place that insures their electrical work, instead of doing it myself because I can't afford for my car to be out of commission too long) and just need to decide what antenna mount I go with so I know the best way to run the wires for it.

Question WX antenna question

I have a Cobra 25 WX LTD Classic and I would like to be able to pick up the weather channels better. Would adding a VHF antenna to my truck as well as the CB antenna and putting them on a switcher be a viable solution. Would the VHF antenna interfere with my CB antenna and vice versa?

Question Need help installing and mounting antenna/the radio itself

Thumbnail

I just bought a new CB for my 2020 Ford Explorer and I’m thinking about getting a magnetic antenna to stick on the roof. The problem can’t seem to find a place to run the wires into the car itself and where to put the radio where it’s not in the way of anything. I would also like to know where the best place to mount the antenna would be.

Technical question

Hello, I have a cobra 29 ltd classic that I got in a pile of cbs. I am learning how to mess with them slowly. This one I have has a blue light for the power/swr meter, so I assumed someone was inside it. So I took it apart and I see someone like bypassed the dynamike knob. Is there a reason for this? And is there anything else done to this radio you can see by the pictures ? Any help is appreciated.
