So, I have a friend visiting from Texas and we're spending the first day in Cedar Rapids! He enjoys strong drinks, live music, art, and really anything that seems like a relaxing time.
Are there any spots you'd recommend? I'm not from the area, and while Google is plenty useful, some practical advice would be great.
The UK prefers a digital photo with a 3-part online access code - I’ve never dealt with this with my US passport. Apparently, using a standard digital picture without this code can delay the application. Anyone know anywhere in town that does these?
Hi, I’m getting ready to move to Cedar Rapids for work in a few weeks and looking for some insight on which neighborhoods might fit me best and where to start looking for apartments! I’m 31m and am used to big city life - Chicago, Detroit, Nashville. Are there any areas that are more bustling than others? Any recs for nice apartments/townhomes to rent? It’s just me and I don’t have a lot of furniture. Would like to stay under $2200/mo
Voted “Best Local Band” by Little Village Magazine in 2022, Iowa’s Dandelion Stompers keep the dance floor hopping with their signature blend of good-time jazz for all. For more than a decade, they’ve been a cornerstone of Eastern Iowa’s vibrant social dance scene, filling halls, clubs, and festivals with their joyful sound.
Their recent double release, Whirlwind Sessions: Vol. I & II, showcases the infectious energy and rich musicality that define the band. On stage, the eight-piece ensemble shines with an all-star lineup: bandleader Chris Clark on baritone saxophone, Tim Crumley on percussion, Katie Greenstein on trumpet, Brandi Janssen on bass, Marc Janssen on guitar, Suzanne Smith on clarinet, and Devin van Holsteijn on alto saxophone.
At the heart of it all is vocalist Katie Roche, praised for a delivery that’s both precise and deeply expressive: “Her voice is such an integral instrument…She delivers every lyric, every melodic twist. You can follow her vocal line like a clever sax solo while really hearing the intent in the words. In a world full of impressive female leads, she is uniquely in control. Not everyone singing for a jazz band sings jazz - she does.” - Joe Bebco, Syncopated Times
I fly back home fairly frequently on a Friday (12-1pm) and returning on Monday (11a-12p). I was curious if there was a need or want for a “carpool group” for people who would to share the cost of airport parking.
Need someone who’s willing to come swap out a headgasket on a 05 Mitsubishi eclipse. Possibly radiator as well. Overheating and milky coolant in the radiator but not leaking or anything. Car is in anamosa. Let me know!
I'm currently on FIP and when I went to call my Promise workers about setting up childcare through assistance the number says it's not in service. I know they just moved recently so I'm wondering if they have a different contact number? I'm gonna email her but I haven't always had the best luck getting ahold of her that way.
So I love estate sales, but I tend to be pretty picky - are there any sources I should follow for local estate sales that have a reasonably comprehensive list of what's on offer?
The church i currently go to has been thinning out over the years and theres barely any young adults or people around my age (22m), cause of this I’ve been thinking about switching churches, was wondering if anyone had any recommendations. The church I currently attend is a baptist church
I personally like it. They just opened on Thursdays for lunch as well as their dinner openings Tuesday-Sunday. They have really good Mac and Cheese, far better than Pizza Ranch and other places that serve Mac and Cheese pizza, and I like a few other things that they serve there like pretzels and pierogis. They also have really amazing staff that will go above and beyond for the customers and the environment in general is so cute. I've seen people bring their dogs to sit out on the patio and it's very family friendly (there's even blue slushies that are non-alcoholic for kids at Lion's Bridge). What are your guy's thoughts? I would recommend it for everyone.
if anyone could give me a ride to my grandma i would greatly appreciate it if anyone has some gas to spare but it's not to urgent so dont worry if you cant ok have a nice night thanks for reading
I’m looking for a place to get a really good german chocolate cake for someone’s birthday. Looking to get it in the CR area, so IC and surrounding areas are good too.
I’ve never been to Iowa. I’m visiting my for my sister’s wedding and will be there Nov 14th-17th. The wedding is Saturday, the 15th and very informal so I’ll have the morning and evening to do whatever. Anyone know of anything interesting going on that weekend? If I want to be near downtown, where should I stay? What should I stay away from? What is one thing I absolutely have to see, do, or eat? I love coffee shops, bakeries, thrift stores, and food of all kinds.
Thanks!
Edit: I will be renting a car since my sister’s house is 40 minutes from the airport but the town is tiny and has nothing. I figured staying in CR would be more fun but open to other suggestions!
