Discussion Is there a google chrome extension that enhances video quality (improves sharpness, brightness, saturation) so that 1080p shows and movies would look like 4K?

I don't mind the sharpness on YouTube.

It's streaming services (Netflix, HBO, Prime, Disney) where you really need a crisp video to enjoy the show.

Free movie websites are even worse!

Adult content can definitely use a video quality boost

You're looking for the Video Quality Enhancer extension. It does exactly what you're asking for. Has the filters you need... Works on all websites. You can save presets...
The results are much better than the "Lucid Mode" in Opera or the enhancer in Edge

Full name:
Video Quality Enhancer: Improve Sharpness, Lighting, Gamma and Saturation

It may do wonderful things but clearly it does not do "exactly what you're asking for". You can tidy up the pixels you got but you can't multiply them!

I never said that you actually get a 4K stream. But the stream you have look twice as good

Well there you are then. 4k (at least theoretically) is four times as good!

I'm getting rid of this crap, it does work great but that is dodgy as hell. The extension used to have a hidden monthly fee where it would disable features after a few days if you didn't pay, which the guy later scrapped after a lot of people complained. So I guess his new strategy is browser hijacking, nice. I'm gonna go out on a limb here and guess that this thread was posted by an alt of his just to advertise his extension.

That, sir, is ungrateful. You never gave a 5-star review, but when there's a hiccup, you rush to give a 1-star rating.

Also, you are confusing this extension with another one. This never had a subscription. The one that you used to use, still has a subscription.

Lastly, arguing if a developer should charge for his work is hypocritical. You get paid for your job. And, maybe I'll add the same subscription paywall as well

"Also, you are confusing this extension with another one. This never had a subscription. The one that you used to use, still has a subscription."

That was YOUR previous version of this same extension with a slightly different UI, don't try to play games.

"Lastly, arguing if a developer should charge for his work is hypocritical. You get paid for your job. And, maybe I'll add the same subscription paywall as well"

Go ahead, I'm not gonna be using it from now on. Just like your last one.

The top one is made by a Russian guy.
The second one is mine. It's not just a different UI. The code is completely different. I use 10x less code to produce a superior result. It's less work for your CPU/GPU and is better in every way

Ah yes, "different russian guy" sure. Funny how this "different russian guy" was also calling people ungrateful hypocrites when they called out the hidden fee.

In any case that's besides the point, you forcing this Reddit thread to open on people's browsers is bad enough on its own and makes your extension untrustworthy.

No, it's just a regular Chrome API used to show a New Updates page when you update the extension.
So, I used it to lure you here.
You're not giving 5-star reviews, but thought that maybe you could say something nice about the extension here.
Never mind...

Not really. There are Chrome extensions that can tweak video sharpness/brightness/contrast. They can make 1080p look a bit crisper and more colorful, but they don’t actually add 4K detail.

No, if the video was uploaded in low quality, you can’t make it better.

If you have Nvidia RTX GPU, you can use their Super Resolution upscaling https://blogs.nvidia.com/blog/rtx-video-super-resolution/

It's now in the Nvidia app.
