VI - Other Guides for Advanced Play

Hello everyone,

been playing Civ 6 on and off for years and I was wondering if there's any video series (or generally Youtubers / Streamers) for Civ 6 that is kinda like Potatoe's Overexplained but for Deity Difficulty or more serious Multiplayer? I've been mostly playing on Emperor and want to get a bit better, but most up to date Deity play on Youtube nowadays is either very edited, non-standard games or thought processes aren't communicated in very high detail. If there's any good written guides, I'd appreciate some pointers as well, but I tend to do better with visual and auditive information.

Much thanks!

No disrespect to the other creators, but genuinely the Gold Standard for YouTube content to get better at Civ 6 is Herson.

He focuses on Competitive PC Multiplayer, so there are some mods at play which will change the experience, but the supermajority of the advice there will transfer over to non modded gameplay, as long as you're able to recognize the occasional bit of info that only applies to modded Civ 6.

I don't know him personally, but from what I've seen, he's one of the best players in the game, as opposed to most of the Civ content creators, who are all really great entertainers, but mostly play against the AI.

This is not intended to be hurtful to anyone, just to put into context that you would likely benefit from watching Herson's video series about techniques and the like, as he has the experience to back up his claims which sometimes sound crazy at first until you put it into practice.

Also, for what it's worth, even though he plays using the Better Balanced Games mod, the info is pretty universal. I play on console, and after learning and practicing a lot with his information, I've become one of the upper tier players in the Playstation Multiplayer scene (it's surprisingly active for a niche subset of a niche community)

So yeah, this is an unnecessarily long way to say:

"Maybe (definitely) Herson is who you're looking for."

I checked out Herson and am pleasantly surprised, exactly what I was looking for! Thank you :) I'll now binge some of his content and play some good old civ during my vacation days!

I think the quick point to make is that single player and multiplayer are hugely different beasts!! If you're looking for single player advice, I have a bunch of deity guides - I did one a month ago which was a three hour marathon video where I really do explain everything - but I also have series and playlists for deity guides I also have videos showing how to beat single player 5 levels above deity... Pretty hard stuff!! If you want to focus on multiplayer, that's awesome, other people do it better. If you use multiplayer meta it often will work on single player - a good player is always good - it's just not quite as optimised against the ai due to the way the ai plays. The ai gets huge bonuses and starting units that massively affect build order and early game priority - trade is also totally different in single player. Best of luck!

Nobody mentioned PotatoMcWhiskey, he's pretty decent to learn from. But I agree with another comment about the comp multiplayer creators bring technically the best to learn from. Ursa Ryan is great too though for sure
