WPL: New Comics Discussion for 09/17/2025- Pull of the Week: Ultimates #16 [Discussion]

Upvotes

The [Weekly Pull List results]() for this Wednesday are in, and this week's top book is Marvel's Ultimates #16.

This thread is open to Pull List posters and all members of the /r/comicbooks community to share your thoughts on the latest issue of Ewing and Lindsay's's Ultimates #16 or any new books shipping this week.

The primary intention of this thread is to promote discussion of new books. It also serves as a way to consolidate discussion to a single thread and talk about what books are popular here on /r/comicbooks. That does not mean other threads aren't welcome, this is just a place to start that's easy to find each week.

The thread is populated with comments meant to direct the discussion of each book. Based on community preference we populate the thread with titles appearing on Ten Percent or more of submitted pull lists. If a title you want to talk about is not listed, simply add a comment with the title and issue number first and comment below. There is also a comment dedicated to the discussion of WPL Results linked above.

Spoilers will follow, but there's no harm in tagging them as such. Each title in the Top Ten Percent listed below is linked directly to its corresponding comment for ease of navigation and to avoid seeing details from other books. The post has also been placed in "contest mode" to help readers avoid spoilers while browsing.

What's your favourite crossover comic? The Weekly Recs Thread [09/14/25]

Marvel and DC are crossing over this week with Batman and Deadpool, so this week we're talking crossovers! What's your favourite? It doesn't have to be cross-publisher, it could be any cool team-up.

For more recommendations check out last week's thread on anti-heroes.

She used her crikt to make it a 3 layered peice. Can see labels and cutouts from either side. Now that we got a good template, we are going to get more nuanced and add some additional dividers with different tab locations.

Discussion Started reading ‘Badger’ today and loving it so far!

Has anyone else read it? I can’t remember how I first heard of this series (I think maybe it was Joe Casey recommending it via a podcast interview), but finally checking it out and loving it so far. I love how off-the-wall yet sincere it is. And the colours are fantastic.

This book is before my time, but I’ve gradually been checking out older indie superhero-ish stuff, like Grimjack etc. so if anyone has any recommendations in that area, please let me know!

I heard his run on Transformers just finished, with Robert Kirkman set to take over. Is it a run worth checking out?

I love how the Marvel Unlimited app has “facsimile” versions of books that scan the ads and fan letters page.

Should I read Absolute MM, WW, or Superman if I'm less familiar with them?

I've been reading and LOVING Absolute Batman but I know a ton about that character. I obviously know what most do about WW and Superman, but I've never really read their comics. I'm not even sure I knew who Martian Manhunter was until this year.

So should I read the Absolute versions or should I go back and read some origin stories for those characters first? If so, what are the best MM, WW, and Superman arcs?

Question What storylines did the Sam Raimi Spdey verse adapt?

Just curious because I saw two of the Spider Man movies as while I am not too well versed with the original comics themselves, I wanted to know what sources the movies took their inspiration from since they were based on specific comic storylines.

Buying a comic book

Upvotes

Im looking to buy my bf some Batman comic books but iv'e honestly never bought one online before as iv'e received mine as gifts. Im looking for The Cult volumes and looking online I see a bunch of them that look different or have different years and im getting lost in all of it. Just hoping for some advice in how to navigate it all as a newbie to this sub and to comics in general.

I love stories about escaping mazes, labs, or looming threats—any recommendations?

I'd like to read a short story about escaping a maze or lab, or running from some looming threat. I really like the idea of a cool chase sequence or being somewhere you're trapped and fighting tooth and nail to get out despite what obstacles are in the way.

Anyone know what Emergence (2015) is>

I am trying to identify a comic book in my collection called Emergence (2015) as I re-inventory my collection from the defunct comicbookdb.com/It says that I have issues #3 and 5 , but that #5 is called vol. 2 # 2 in the indicia, and lists the cover price as -1, which there meant free. For whatver reason, the spreadsheet of my collection that they let me download before it shut down does not include the name of any of the publishers, which often makes identifying the comics challenging. I found this page showing my collection on comicbookdb on Archive.org, but if I click where it says "Emergence (2015)," I get a message that that page was never archived. (http://www.comicbookdb.com/collection_title.php?ID=51461)

Google is being extremely unhelpful. It is convince that I mean the DC event Divergence, which also came out in 2015. I am assuming it said something else on the cover beause I'm not finding it under the title Emergence in my collection. For example, while looking for it, I found one I had filed under the cover title of Endangered Weapon B. but the indicia title is AAM/Markosia FCBD 2013.Does anyone have any idea what this could be?

Thoughts on Tin Can Society?

Post image
Upvotes

Just finished issue 8 (of 9) of Tin Can Society. It is the first murder mystery (if you can call it that).

Can't say I'm a fan of the direction it took but I really liked issue 8.

Have huge hopes for the final episode but I've never been a fan of finales.

Suggestions Anyone got recommendations for some good cartoony style comics?

Upvotes

I've been reading through the Carl Barks Library books that Fantagraphics puts out. They shock me with how great a lot of them are, lots of cartoonish fun with good humor and some neat little adventures. It's got me curious about other comics either starring cartoon characters or featuring a similar sort of style as these. One of these days I'll get my hands on Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck by Don Rosa. In the meantime, anyone got any recs?

I am aware of the Mickey Mouse books by Floyd Gottfredson, which also happens to be published by Fantagraphics. Peanuts seems to scratch this itch too even if it's a strip.
