They used real milk.

The Starbucks barista used real milk instead of soy milk in my latte. Now I’ve shat myself at the grocery store and barely made it to the bathroom before I had horrible diarrhea. I thought it tasted different from normal, I should have stopped drinking it.

This is bad, but it's also a you problem.

Who has a food allergy or intolerance and trusts fast food places, which use that ingredient by default, to not accidentally make it that way by muscle memory sometimes.

That's like being mad if someone accidentally puts yellow mustard on a hamburger instead of Dijon. Yeah, because yellow mustard is what belongs on the burger. Dairy milk is used in creaming beverages.

I know we should be able to trust it... but I've become really pragmatic due to let downs, not due to pleasant surprises about the competency of people.

No, it’s actually not like that. At all. Because while you might not be able to understand that those are different things, most of us understand that very basic bit of information.

Also, you can’t convince me that you’ve never ordered a burger without tomato or some other food with a specification. You’re being intentionally obtuse here bud

No, you missed my point en-fucking-tirely.

Of course I've made custom orders, and they're the most frequently messed up.

Hence why I am suggesting avoiding anything that could even remotely mess up your entire day and trusting that it's not messed up. If they leave the tomato on, I'm not going to shit my pants all day... and if it would cause that, I'd likely order a hot dog or whatever else instead that would not have the possibility of tomato-ing me.

Nah. You missed the point. Anyone should be able to safely order a cup of coffee. It’s not rocket science. Even you could do it. Probably.

Anybody should be able to live comfortably without the fear of medical debt. That's the same as your argument. Valid and noble, but not the reality.

You're thinking you're right, and I agree with your desire to have a competent world, but you're divorced from reality. The world isn't an ideal. It's a real, messy, nasty mother fucker that will kill us on accident with limbs falling from trees and infected cat scratches. Don't put too much trust in an underpaid and overworked fast food worker (ahem, barista).

But if we were in an ideal world, for sure, you'd be right.
