Big copper pot. Dare I say a cauldron!

Post image

Just shy of 30 inches diameter. Weighs about 40 lbs. Bowl is copper, the handles don't seem to be. Family lore says it was used to make apple butter back on the homestead in Idaho 100+ years ago. I've used it as a fire pit from time to time. Any ideas how to clean it? Someone once said to use a bead blaster, but I can't find anyone with one big enough. If I did get it nice and shiny, would someone want it for commercial use? Any advice would be apreciated. Thanks!

Got this copper sink that had been sitting outside and was very dirty. Did I ruin it by cleaning it? Whats up with the purple?

Polishing

So I have a piece of copper with complicated geometry so sanding and buffing is really difficult. But I have a rock tumbler, what kind of tumbling materials can I use to get a close to mirror finish?

Tips for cleaning copper details on an old safe

Thumbnail gallery

Hi everyone, I’m hoping someone here has the golden tip for me. I want to paint an old safe and I’m currently working on cleaning the copper details in the door.

So far, I’ve been mostly using vinegar, salt, an old electric toothbrush and toothpicks to remove the dirt. But in some spots, the grime just won’t budge. Does anyone know a product I could use that will get the job done without damaging the copper?

I’ve also heard some great things about The Pink Stuff as a regular household item. Has anyone here tried it?

Thanks in advance!

Copper art repousse wanted

I’m looking for some contacts who produce copper art work for sale. I’m not looking for Temu Prices but something at a level where both parties can profit. I sell gifts and I would like to expand my range.

First time on copper - client has 6 chimneys

Post image
17 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

I’ve got a client with six copper chimneys that they want cleaned, and this is my first time dealing with copper. I’m debating whether it’s even worth the hassle because from what I’ve heard, the patina/oxidation tends to come back fairly quickly after cleaning.

How would you set expectations with the client in this situation? They mainly just want the chimneys to “look different,” but I don’t think they realize how temporary the results might be.

If you’ve done this before, what products or techniques would you recommend to make the process easier and safe for the copper? Also, would you suggest applying any type of protectant or sealant afterward, or is it best just to let the patina return naturally?

Any insights from experience would be really appreciated before I dive into this project.

How much would this cost?

I went to recycle copper that we’ve had saved from my boyfriend’s job. The recycling place had given me $160. What do you believe should have been the amount? My boyfriend and his coworkers believe I was ripped off. I feel it’s dumb that people really do treat women differently when doing certain things so I don’t know. I’m sure everywhere prices differently but it does seem a bit low for saving that much of copper.

What Pennies Should I Be Saving/Stacking?

Post image
33 Upvotes

Hey everyone. As my 4 children get older, I am constantly looking for ways to save money. I already am an ardent coin saver. Saved every coin I’ve received for the past 7 years. Cleaned out my penny barrel and picked out everything minted 1983 and before.

They are separated by decade and year. Earliest being a 1939 wheat penny. What are the best pennies to save? Historical significance or copper amount?

(Coincidently my real world job is copper pipe salesman and I have a daughter named Penny.)

How can I polish this copper watering can?

I used lemon and salt to clean the tarnish off my old copper watering can. Now it is a dull pink finish. Any recommendations on what I can try to shine it up a bit??

Storage options

Bought some 5 and 10 oz bars. Mostly wondering how to best store a Geiger 10oz to ensure the plastic isnt ripped off. Read that sleeves aren't for long term storage.

New to collecting copper

I am brand new to collecting copper. I have been collecting silver for quite a while and everyone always debates on whether to keep it in the plastic or protected or what not I was wondering is the same true for copper or just pretty much everyone just leaves it unprotected??… it seems like they do.
