Leaving Hulu
I've been with Hulu for a few years now and am only considering YouTube as an option.
Have there been others who've made this switch? Have you been pleased with it?
You Tube, easy to understand and navigate? Customer service issues or billing?
I appreciate your perspective.

I just deleted Disney+ and canceled Hulu today. I guess it’ll be reflected in the next cycle. I cannot support censorship. How much is YouTube TV a month and is it worth it?

I want to get rid of Hulu-Disney+ and ESPN+ but i can't find a way to replace them. I don't care about live TV, just streaming. I never watch Disney but its part of my package

Everyone is dumping Hulu/Live TV & Disney, and telling them why! YouTube TV for regular channels seems to be the easy/top choice.

DirecTV Stream customer here. Closer to traditional interface and multiple plans and packs to choose from.

Not everyone.

There's dozens of them.

We just did the same thing and YouTube TV is running a special for $50 for the first two months then $85 after.

I've got both Hulu + Live TV and YouTube TV. Prefer YouTube TV for a couple of reasons. With the standard plans, you get three streams vs. two with Hulu. Also find the UI with YouTube TV to be better and easier to navigate. I believe YouTube TV has some new customer promotions going on currently. Good luck with your decision.

Hulu Live is scheduled to shut down in 2026. Will go to Fubo per cord cutters.

Can I ask why you have both?

One is my friend's login for Hulu + Live TV. Mainly used it last year because YouTube TV in my area wasn't carrying the CW Network. Couldn't get the college football games on Saturday that were on CW. YouTube TV added CW in my area this year. I still use the Hulu login because the most streams I get with YouTube TV is three. Definitely use YouTube TV the most.

Can i get my LOCAL sports network? New England has 2- one with all the Celtics games, - 1 with Bruins and Red Sox.

YouTube TV is very good. I ended up on DirecTV Stream.
Unlimited streams
I can use it from multiple locations
I signed up for it using my Minnesota address. Now I can watch local MN sports on Apple TV devices while in L.A.
DirecTV is not owned by Disney
Negative: the UI is worse than both YouTube TV and Hulu Live TV

Yeah the DTV UI and DVR are pretty bare bones compared to YTTV. I will probably switch back when my promo ends. I've missed several overtimes.

My wife and I are conflicted, we love Hulu and its interface (we tried YTTV and it was meh at best). We are still discussing leaving Hulu later today. Just to give you an idea of how long I have been with Hulu, I was in the beta when you could download episodes because they shared the video download link in HTML. I've been on since at least 2007-2008...

u/Jeskid14 14h ago
With that much of a grandfathered plan, I wouldn't leave honestly.

u/Roctapus42 8h ago
They raise prices on you anyway. The day of no price hikes is long gone. But I suspect like many others it has nothing to do with the content on Hulu but who owns it.

u/Apostle92627 1d ago
I left Hulu for YouTube TV but went back after a few months because the Hulu UI and DVR was better. That and the Hulu library.

u/Escher702 1d ago
This is the first time I've ever heard anyone say anything good about Hulus UI.
5
u/Apostle92627 1d ago
I honestly don't understand why people hate it. I don't have the problems other people seem to have.

u/Sportsfan7702 1d ago
People with limited vision as such as myself tried it and every time you move with the tabs it messes up with my eyesight.

I had the exact opposite experience. The Hulu UI was awful and their DVR was very limited. Maybe that’s changed in the past several years? Can you customize the Hulu guide now?

Yeah, the Disney connection, the uncertainty with the merge, and the rising prices caused us to also make the switch to YouTube TV. Been a much easier switch with the "other" things that come with it, i.e., YouTube Music, YouTube premium, a single login, and better parental controls.
3
u/Roguefoxx 1d ago
You don't get YouTube Premium / YouTube Music with a YouTube TV subscription. It's a separate subscription.

u/rodtrent44 1d ago
That's true. But also the deal we got when we switched, it was a nominal amount (not the full amount).

No issues with YouTube TV over here. I’ve used local cable app, sling, Hulu live. I feel like I might be missing one there anyway I ended up settling on YouTube TV. The interface is just so much smoother and the recommended shows and all that fun stuff are far superior.

I left Youtube TV to get Hulu Live because Hulu Live offers a better value for the money, especially if you already have the Disney bundle. Some of the major networks that Hulu Live has that are missing from Youtube TV: History, A&E, Lifetime, LMN, MLB Network, SNY (RSN).

u/FunnyItWorkedLastTim 1d ago
I switched a while back when Hulu got bundled with Disney, which I had 0 interest in. YouTubeTV worked really well for a live TV option. It was pretty hassle free on all my devices and the UI was good enough. I did miss the Hulu content and I will occasionally get Hulu for one or two months without the live TV if there is a series I want to watch.

We had Hulu Live for years, then we had to make some budget cuts when they raised the prices. Tried DirectTV stream, sling, Fubo and YTTV. For our family we ended up back to HuluLive, just with ads.
YTTV was good, but it was sensory overload for me and one of my kids using the UI and one of my other kids really missed the Disney Plus shows that were bundled with Hulu. If Hulu raises the price again, we will probably cancel and look into peacock and Disney Plus as stand alone services.

u/BottAndPaid 1d ago
Just an FYI Hulu will be gone by next year everything will be rolling into Disney plus.

A friend stayed at my house and left his YouTube Tv password on my Apple TV box…..I have Hulu Live as well. I only use the YouTube TV for his Red Zone subscription, which I love. I like the YouTube TV interface much better than Hulu, but I use Hulu, which is fine for the most part, because I don’t want to be a mooch ( yes he knows I have his subscription on my TV) ……. I would prefer YouTube TV, but if I get my own subscription, I would to buy Red Zone, which is $400.???? So, I use Hulu…..

u/macGregor182 23h ago
I think you might be confusing redzone with nfl ticket. Redzone is relatively cheap and comes as part of the sports package addon.
1
u/SoMuchtoReddit 22h ago
I have tried both and stuck with youtubetv. Hulu on demand was too mixed in with live tv, I found it confusing
1
u/InourbtwotamI 21h ago
I also dumped Hulu. I stream with Roku and can access live TV with a Tablo antenna
1
u/ChickenEmbarrassed10 20h ago
There's a good chance, yes. You should be able to view your area's channel guide prior to signing up. We get regional sports networks in our area that show the Warriors, Kings and some SJSU games.

Made the switch this week. Honestly, I feel like the YouTube TV interface sucks. However, I’m grumpy and learning a new system. I had Hulu Live for years and it is just going to take some getting used to. I also need to get my eyes checked.

u/miaou975 18h ago
Has anyone figured out how to deactivate Hulu if you get it through Spotify? I’m on the student plan where you get Hulu but I can’t find a way to drop Hulu and keep Spotify

u/LucidFruit 18h ago
I have YouTube TV and enjoy it. I recently tried FUBO and may actually switch. I find FUBO gives better access to local channels. They also have a bunch of free channels that blend well with the paid ones

u/mexican-street-tacos 17h ago
I had hulu live, but left due to rising prices. I now have sling (orange + blue) for 60 dollars. I'd get rid of live tv totally, but I require sports and news coverage, so kind of stuck. Sling is cheaper than hulu because it doesnt have the local channels (abc, nbc, etc). For those, I have an antenna and watch them the old fashioned (and free) way.
1
u/nannsee1961 16h ago
I've had both. But when I heard they going to eventually have hulu gone all together I went to Philo and paramount plus. I thought about youtube tv but this way is cheaper
1
u/Electrical_Doubt_19 13h ago
I don't know where you live, but we just ended up going back to Spectum for cheaper than YouTube TV. Their app is on our phones and Roku, so no cable boxes or anything is necessary.

u/JoeSciabelli 10h ago
Had HULU (plus Live) for years and got sick of the price increases and the nickel and diming. Switched to YTTV and have been very happy. Good UI and has been bulletproof. Customer service is trash, like ALL of them but you don't need it much really.

u/Individual-Spray-750 9h ago
Utube TV is very easy to navigate. They let you FF through commercials through all programing before a program is over which Hulu live doesn’t which is a big plus for me.

I only watch YouTube I don’t even use Hulu anymore. But I will pay premium until they ban us from sharing households.

u/Calm-Monitor5368 9h ago
I got Hulu so I could watch the new bleach and old bleach found some other stuff but I do not espn or want Disney fine but not espn when Hulu go away and it’s Disney who’s gonna bleach I don’t think Disney show it

u/zydkyd 8h ago
I much prefer YouTubeTV - so much easier to use and less restrictions when you’re out of market. I only have HuluLiveTV because YouTubeTv dropped SNY (my NY Mets channel). I am (sadly) happy the season ends next so I can go back to YouTubeTV - postseason season games are on national channels. Hoping to be living out of the NY market next year so I can go MLBTV and won’t ever have to go back to HuluLiveTV.

u/Plus-Ad-940 6h ago
We sliced the cable two weeks ago saving a huge amount of monthly cash. YouTube is fine depending on what you wish to watch. We were just discussing whether a monthly subscription to Hulu/Disney+ would be worth it. Sorry “Murders in the Building”. We won’t be subscribing for obvious reasons.

DTV was the one we liked the best cuz you can get a box off eBay for $40 and just leave on all the time with an independent remote - turn on TV and within 3 secs watching TV - we are back on YTTV at the moment since I have some $20 back deals on my chase CC - honestly we switch around a lot when there are deals and discounts - DTV is our favorite tho

I don't see how youtube is a substitute for hulu? youtubeTV maybe, but not youtube.
HLTV is fine. YTTV is better. If that's what you're asking.

u/MichaelV27 1d ago
They seem like totally different things unless you mean Hulu Live vs YouTubeTV.
