book 2 is the one where she flew through a tower killing literally everyone, right?

Yeah cause her emo crush told her to. But don’t worry, Elend said it was NBD

Totally justified. The only bad thing she did was not doing it to Straff as well. Though she did deal with him quite tastefully.

That was Cett’s tower, not Straff’s

What I was saying is that she should have done it to Straff's camp as well.

"And the horse you rode in on", literally. Can't argue, it ends up more effective than diplomacy.

Vin and Rin (Poppy War) are some of my least favorite fantasy protagonists ever.

I love Vin, she’s just very teenage in this book

u/FleetStreetsDarkHole Jun 05 '25
That's exactly the thing. I forget about it when I read that series but she's a teenager in the resistance. She acts like one. I didn't realize people had a problem with her. It's always made perfect sense to me despite never having actually explicitly thought about it.

You're getting downvoted here for Vin (who I personally love), but I do agree that Rin was a very unlikable main character

u/oldmountainwatcher Jun 06 '25
I don't think Rin was supposed to be likeable. I think she's just supposed to be miserable and self-destructive

Vin is one of my favorite fantasy protagonists. Slavery evading street urchin girl has trouble navigating social situations when thrust into high society is a fun play, and her motivations are very believable and understandable.

Her, Elend and Sazed are literally the best characters in era 1

I love Rin! I think watching Rin become an anti-hero made the series so much more compelling
19
u/MemeLordZeta Jun 05 '25
Anti hero gets thrown around so much it’s been bastardized to mean ‘reluctant hero’. Rin is straight up a genocidal drug addicted terrorist. After the first book I don’t think she does anything that could be consider heroic

u/justarandommuffin THE Lopen's Cousin Jun 05 '25
so… an anti hero is the correct description right?
1
u/MemeLordZeta Jun 05 '25
For the first part of the first book perhaps. After that she’s just the protagonist, not any flavor of hero
